Juan Lopez, Sr., 96, passed away peacefully, at his home, Saturday, April 9, 2022.
He was born on June 27, 1925 in Coalmine, Texas. He then moved to Waukegan, IL in 1960 and resided with his family for over 50 years. He was such a happy, easy-going person who loved his life in the country, after retirement, after many years at Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago, IL. He had multiple hobbies including gardening, cooking, carpentry and caring for his dogs and chickens. Also, spending quality time with his family out on the patio while listening to music. He loved singing while watching the cars go by with a beer in hand.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, of 72 years, Clara Lopez; his parents, Juan & María Hilda Lopez; sisters, Rogelia Garcia (Lopez) and Aurora Garcia (Lopez).
He is survived by his children, Juan Lopez Jr., Robert (Judy) Lopez, Christina (Richard) Johnson, Sarah (Joe Rodriguez) Lopez, Armando (Jean) Lopez, Patricia Lopez; grandchildren, Eric Johnson, Laura Lopez, Ruby Lopez-Rodriguez, and Stephen Lopez; siblings, Valentin Lopez and María Elena Lieck (Lopez); several other family members and a very special nephew, Ernesto “El Gordo” Lieck.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 18, 2022, from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm at Hurley Funeral Home, 14822 Main Street, Lytle, Texas 78052.
A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at 10:00 am at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 14821 Main Street, Lytle, Texas 78052.
Burial will immediately follow at Lytle Community Cemetery.
