Jose Guadalupe C. “Lupe” De La Fuente, of Devine, passed away on June 4, 2019 at the age of 78 years. He was born October 10, 1940 in Montemorelos, Mexico to Gabriel De La Fuente and Corina Carrasco De La Fuente.
Lupe graduated from La Coste High School in 1960. He then worked at Southwest Research for thirty-four years before retiring. Guadalupe also loved to fish in bass tournaments.
On May 16, 1963, Lupe married Dolores Ybarra in San Antonio, Texas. They were married for fifty years at the time of her death in 2013.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Laurie De La Fuente of Castroville; daughter and son-in-law, Yvette and Kirk Tschirhartof College Station; grandchildren, Dustin (Briseida) Tschirhart, Braden Tschirhart, Devin De La Fuente and Emily De La Fuente; great-granddaughter, Elena Tschirhart; siblings, Guadalupe Cano of Harlingen, Ricardo (Maria) De La Fuente of Devine, Maria Duron of La Coste, Gloria Saucedo of La Coste, and Juanita (Frank) Hernandez of Castroville; in-laws, Fabian Ybarra, Jr. of San Antonio, David (Elida) Ybarra of Quihi, Jim (Lisa) Ybarra of St. Paul, Minnesota, Elsie Ybarra of Cedar Hills, Yolanda Ybarra Cadena of Castroville and Esther (George) Ortega of Castroville as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Lupewas preceded in death by his parents, Gabriel and Corina De La Fuente; wife, Dolores De La Fuente; sister, Olivia Najar; infant siblings, Jose and Margarita De Le Fuente; parents-in-law, Fabian S. Ybarra, Sr. and Dominga Ybarra; brothers-in-law, Joe Duron, Francisco Sauceda and Amado Cano.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 9, 2019 starting at 4:30 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church, with a Rosary recited at 5:30 p.m. The Mass of the Resurrection will follow the Rosary at St. Louis Catholic Church.Services will conclude at the church.
Memorials may be made in Lupe’s memory to St. Louis Catholic School.
