John Mitchell “Mitch” Pope, of Hondo, passed away on September 20, 2018 at his son’s home in Utopia, at the age of 62 years. Mitch was born June 11, 1956 in Hondo and graduated from Hondo High School in 1974.
“We are thankful for the good and full life that dad has lived. You all know well that he wants everyone smiling and remembering the good ol’ days. It is comforting to know that we will meet again in Heaven for eternity. Dad had always said,” I ain’t a scared of living and I ain’t a scared of dying, I know where I’m going. “Pappy made it back home to D’Hanis before going to be with our Lord and Savior. We love each and every one of you. “
Mitch was preceded in death by his father, Lendon Elmo Pope; mother, Irene Szymanski Pope; step-mother, Beatrice Lewis Pope; and brother-in-law, David Schulte.
Survivors include his son, Nicholas “Nick” Pope and fiancée Jodi Lee Adair McGrath of Utopia; granddaughter, Larkin Skye Ferguson; siblings, Mike (Diann) Pope, Linda Schulte, Patrick (Kathy Schwartz-Pope) Pope, Dana Pope, Nancy Grootes, Mark (Brenda) Pope, Tina (Mark) Sebesta and Stacey (Steve) Henry; step-mother, Georgia Ann Mueller Pope; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives, and many beloved friends that were very important to him.
Mitch lived a good and full life and he would like for his family and friends to celebrate his life. To honor his wishes, a Celebration of Mitch’s life will be held Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 5:00 pm at Mitch’s home.
