Jesus Islas Hernandez

Jesus Islas Hernandez entered into eternal peace at the age of 90 years old on June 7, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on July 14, 1930 to Juan Hernandez and Tomasa Islas in Odem, Texas. He spent the majority of his life growing up in Asherton, Texas. After high school, he joined the US Army and fought in the Korean War. Upon completing his service to our country, he attended Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and a Master of Education Administration degree. It was there in Alpine, Texas where he met his lovely wife, Ernestina Hernandez. He returned to his beloved hometown of Asherton where he taught 5th grade, high school typing, math, and driver’s education. He later became the Asherton High School principal. After serving 32 years in education, he retired to Devine, Texas. Upon retiring, he enjoyed his time going to see his grandchildren play sports, and march in the band. He made sure he attended every Grandparents Day at the schools for his fourteen grandchildren. Because of his love of teaching, he continued to substitute teach in the Devine area schools, and he also taught private Spanish lessons. He was very friendly and enjoyed socializing and playing golf at the Devine Golf Course and going to the flea market. He loved baseball, enjoyed telling stories and always stressed the importance of education He was a devoted father, husband and grandfather.
He is precedent by his father, Juan Hernandez, mother, Tomasa Islas, brother Ramon Hernandez, and brother Patricio Hernandez. Jesus is survived by his wife, Ernestina Hernandez; sister, Antonia Rodriguez, sons, Armando Arispe, Juan Jesus Hernandez, daughters, Belinda De La Cruz, Doris Figueroa, Elaine Carrasco. Grandchildren: Bobby De La Cruz, Roland De La Cruz, Alfredo De La Cruz, Christopher De La Cruz, Amanda Arispe, Roman Arispe, Roy Arispe, Chelsea Figueroa, Monica Figueroa, Marc Figueroa, Jessica Alexandra Garza, Jennell Marie Hernandez, Jerica Jane Hernandez and Anthony Jake Carrasco, and 15 great grandchildren.
Jesus will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
A Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary  at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday , June 16, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in (108 S. Washington Dr. Devine, Texas) followed by interment at Devine Evergreen Cemetery (W. Colonial Pkwy)
