Jessie Lang was born on January 22, 1929 in Elizabeth Town, North Carolina to James and Magnolia Beard. She was the youngest of 7 children and spent her youth working with her family picking cotton and tobacco as sharecroppers. Although Jessie dropped out of school after 5th grade she never let that hold her back, finding hard work, dedication, and perseverance could and would lead to a fruitful life. As a teenager and young adult she would work on the military bases as a tailor and seamstress. After a couple of failed marriages, Jessie met her true love Jesse Lang, and they were married on March 21, 1969 in Akins, South Carolina. They moved to Texas and bought some land on the outskirts of Devine in 1973. This is where Jessie started a personal care home business that provided support and care for hundreds of elderly and handicapped individuals through the years. A dedicated hard worker and family oriented, now mother of 6, decided it was time to reach out and bring her family back together. She called on her daughters Mae, Vonnie, and Carolyn to come to Devine with their children and join her, Jesse, and her son Scottie to help her run Lang’s Personal Care Home. With children in tow they all arrived and grew the business for over 30 years until Jessie’s retirement.
Jessie spent her final years with her true love, Jesse “PawPaw” Lang in their home in Devine. She loved traveling, mostly long road trips in her RV with family, sewing, canning, and gardening, and always looked forward to visits from her family.
Jessie is preceded in death by her son Ronnie Clark, daughter and son-in-law Carolyn and Ted Johnson, brothers Junior, Harvey, and Arthur Beard and sisters Nellie Beard Daniels and Magalen Beard.
Jessie Lee Lang will live on in the hearts and souls of her husband, Mr. Jesse Lang, children Mae Hyde, Vonnie Pruitt, Robert Lang, and Scottie and Kimberly Lang, and her brother Delmar Dewitt Beard. She further leaves a legacy of 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 29 great-great-grandchildren. She has passed but will continue to live in these hearts, and the echo of her life will continue for many generations.
“Love you Grandma,” all of us.
