Jack Delbert Curtis

Jack Delbert Curtis

Jack Delbert Curtis went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 31, 2018, at the age of 86. He was born in Cotulla, Texas, on October 16, 1931, to Martin Delbert and Effie Stephenson Curtis. He was a generous provider, loving husband, wonderful father, caring brother, awesome grandfather (whom they named Tutu), and faithful friend to many. He was known by his friends and family as a great man with a larger than life personality.
After graduating from High School as a standout athlete, he competed at the college level in both basketball and football. For many years, he enjoyed his reunions with his A&I classmates.
Jack was called to serve in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. As the oldest son, Jack was called home from the Korean Conflict to assist with the dairy when his father became gravely ill.
Jack met and married the love of his life, Charlotte Jean Stricker. They were married in November 1957. Their union was blessed for 42 years until her death in October 1999. Those who knew Jack and Charlotte knew that their life revolved around their family and faith. Jack was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church where he served the Lord through his gifts, service, and presence.
Jack loved his ranching and farming career, which included years of ranching in Mexico. While in Mexico, he built a fishing lodge, Lago Vista, on Lake Guerrero. It is uncertain whether he was down there to ranch or fish, but the family has fond memories of the time they spent in Mexico over the summers. His career took many paths from farming, ranching, serving as Deputy Sheriff, and owning an agriculture insurance company.
Jack truly loved South Texas and all it had to offer. In his later years, he always made sure hunting and fishing opportunities were available to all of his family and their friends. He loved watching his grandchildren compete in sporting events, whether it was for their schools or in his backyard. He would never hesitate to offer his coaching and advice, whether you wanted it or not.
Jack was survived by his children, Cheryl Stroud (Billy) of Hondo, Jackie Stoner (Tom) also of Hondo, Jack Curtis Jr. of Dripping Springs; his grandchildren Curtis, Chandler and Carson Stoner, Carly and Kendall Stroud, and Treyce and Cooper Curtis; his sisters Bettie Curtis Cogburn and Linda Curtis Hayes, his brother Paul Curtis (Diane); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Charlotte Stricker Curtis, sister Annie Holcomb, and brother-in-law Bill Cogburn.
Family welcomed friends and loved ones on Thursday, February 1, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Cotulla. Funeral services were held Friday, February 2, at 10:00 am at the First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to The First United Methodist Church of Cotulla.
