This Saturday our Mighty Warhorse Band will be competing in the Area E UIL Marching Contest at Calallen High School for an opportunity to qualify for the UIL State Marching Band Contest, playoff competitions that are only afforded to bands every other year! This is Devine’s second time in a row, having gotten all 1’s at Region every year for the past 4 years, 5 total since Jeff Miller and his crew took over the leadership of the Devine Warhorse Band program 9 seasons ago. The band hopes to advance to the finals, and from finals qualify for State.
“Unfortunately, we have drawn a VERY early performance time – we are 2nd in a field of 29 marching 4A Bands from across all of South Texas. This means we will warm up at 8:25 am, and will need to arrive on site at 7:30 am at Calallen High School!! Luckily, because we have the most AWESOME Band Boosters we have been able to secure hotel rooms for Friday night, a mere 8 minutes from the stadium. We will therefore be unable to attend the Pearsall game as we will need to depart Devine in a timely manner to get checked in – and with this large of a group it is a big task! Most importantly, we will be safe on the road, be well rested, and prepared to do OUR BEST!” said Jeff Miller, Devine High School Director of Bands.
“We always support our Warhorses and Arabians and will be present in spirit supporting them all the way to victory! A BIG thank you to our parents and administration for supporting the efforts of our kids!! This will be an exciting honor in a very successful contest season – and there has never been a better time to express my own sincere pride in our students for their incredible dedication and efforts!! We will perform at Calallen Stadium at 9:15 am – please come and support us if you can!” said Miller.
The 4A Area E Marching Contest Schedule starts with the first band at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. Prelim results will be announced at 5:00 pm with Finals to begin at 7:30 and conclude at 10:00 p.m.
Bands from our Region II that advanced and will be performing are: Devine will perform at 9:15 am bright and early in the morning. Crystal City performs at 11:15 am and Carrizo Springs at 12:45 pm. Pearsall takes the field with a 1:45 pm performance time, Hondo is at 2:30 pm.
Devine Band call time is Friday at 5:00 pm where they will load up and head down to Calallen to check into a hotel and rest up for their early morning performance. They will leave Devine at 6:00 pm , so if you want to wish them luck as they leave time look for the buses to roll out of town around 6:00 p.m.
