Huge 6th inning fuels Arabians’ comeback win over Harper

The Varsity Arabians found themselves facing a seven-run deficit against the Harper Ladyhorns in a makeup game played Friday, March 10, and in desperate need of some offense.
That was exactly what Devine got when senior and recent Langston University signee Brittany Jay stepped up to bat to lead off the bottom of the 6th inning. Jay belted a solo shot to deep center field, giving the Arabians their first run of the game and the offensive jumpstart that saw the team bat around and pull off a comeback win.
Following Jay’s homer, Jenna Sadler singled, and pitcher Amanda Wilson doubled to put two runners on in scoring position for Brooklyn Anderson, who drew a walk to load the bases with no outs. DH Jessie Ramirez responded with a single to right to drive in Sadler, and Tori Martin followed with a double to left to knock in Wilson and Anderson to cut Harper’s lead to 7-4.
After the first out of the inning came via strikeout, Jaylyn Stewart singled to left to drive in Ramirez and Martin. Korin Stehle walked, and Jay reached on an error to load the bases for Sadler, who promptly hit a long double to center to knock in Stewart and Stehle. Wilson’s sacrifice fly to center allowed Jay to score, and Sadler later crossed the plate herself to give Devine a 10-7 lead heading into the final inning.
Harper didn’t roll over, capitalizing on three singles and a walk to score three times and tie the game 10-10.
Martin led off the bottom of the 7th inning with a walk, and advanced to third on a double to left field by Taylor Carr. Stehle’s single brought Martin around to score and complete the Arabians’ come-from-behind victory.
Wilson went the distance on the mound, giving up seven earned runs on 13 hits and three walks to earn the win. She also recorded 10 strikeouts.
