Hortense Alice Keller Kroeger, of La Coste, passed away on November 12, 2017 in Lytle at the age of 95 years. She was born May 28, 1922 in La Coste. Hortense was the last surviving of five children born to William Rudolph Keller and Mary Theresa Mangold Keller.
On December 29, 1947, Hortense married Ernest John “Cotton” Kroeger at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Cotton preceded her in death on December 7, 1982 at the age of 70 years. They had been married for almost 35 years.
Hortense was an excellent cook and homemaker. She used her skills as a cook to prepare lunches at Our Lady of Grace Catholic School and later at La Coste Elementary School.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her son who recently passed away, Ernest John Kroeger, Jr. as well as brothers, Vincent (Rose) Keller, Marion (Elizabeth “Betty”) Keller; and sisters, Evelyn (George) Jungman and Henrietta (Edgar) Kempf.
Survivors include her daughter, Elaine Rose Kroeger of La Coste; daughter-in-law, Betty Kroeger of Lytle; grandson, Brian (Karron) Kroeger of Kingwood; great-granddaughter, Audrey Kroeger; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home with the Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 pm. Mass of the Resurrection will be Friday, November 17, 2017 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Hortense’s memory to Lytle Animal Allies, 210 CR 6877, Natalia, TX 78059 or Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.
