Gilbert Fuentes was born on April 6, 1944 in Castroville, Texas. He passed away on August 25, 2018 in San Antonio at the age of 74 years. Gilbert was one of 17 children of Ambrosio Soto Fuentes and Martina Lopez Fuentes. He attended St. Louis Catholic School and St. Louis Catholic Church. During the summer, when school was out, he and his family were migrant farm workers. Their work took them to Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana and Ohio. Gilbert became ill and was no longer able to attend school or work.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ambrosio and Martina Fuentes, an infant sister, Mary Fuentes and by his brother, Jose Angel Fuentes.
Survivors include his siblings, Margaret Francis of San Antonio, John Fuentes of San Antonio, Celestina Fuentes of Castroville, Silverio Fuentes of San Antonio, Maria Fuentes of Castroville, Theodore Fuentes of Castroville, Richard Fuentes of Castroville, Senorina Urbina of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Janie Fuentes of Castroville, Lazarus Fuentes of Bloomington, Minnesota, Antonio Fuentes of Minneapolis, Minnesota, James Fuentes of Castroville, Porfiria Spencer of La Crescent, Minnesota and Ruben Fuentes of Castroville; as well as numerous other relatives.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 29, 2018 starting at 5:00 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with the Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 pm. Mass of the Resurrection will be Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 10:30 am at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Gilbert’s memory in the form of masses, to St. Louis Catholic Cemetery or to the charity of your choice.
