Gerard (Jerry) Schneider

Gerard (Jerry) Schneider, age 81, passed away peacefully at his San Antonio home on October 30, 2017.
His beloved son, Roger G. Schneider, preceded him in death in 1984.
Jerry was born in Devine, Texas to Emil Schneider and Alice Haass Schneider and was the oldest of three boys.
He graduated from Devine High School in 1955 and graduated from Durham Business College in San Antonio. He served honorably in the United States Army for four years, including assignments in Germany.
Jerry worked for City Public Service Energy for 37.5 years as a manager in the Material and Transportation Division.
Later in life he volunteered for the St. Luke’s Catholic Church Bereavement Meal Committee and was a member of the church Men’s Club. He also enjoyed traveling with his family. Trips included Niagara Falls, Canada, Alaska, the California Redwood Forest and Spokane, WA. Jerry was an avid hunter his entire life who shared his passion with numerous younger members of the family.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet Bendele Schneider and daughter, Karen Schneider Sykora and son-in-law, Craig Sykora. Grandsons, Luke C. Sykora and Jake R. Sykora. Also by brothers, Bill Schneider and Mike Schneider and by numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, loving nephews and nieces as well as many life-long friends.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Luke and Jake Sykora, and nieces and nephews Travis Bendele, Brett Bendele, Lisa Bendele Patel, Carrie Schneider, Lauren Roberts Borski, Bryan Bendele and Christie Bendele.
The family would like to thank so many friends for their support over the past year. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. Luke’s Bereavement Committee, the Henry and Henrietta Bendele Devine High School Scholarship fund, or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Visitation was held on Sunday, November 5 at 6:00 pm with the Rosary following at 7:00 pm at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 4603 Manitou Drive, San Antonio.
A funeral Mass was held Monday, November 6 at 10:30 am at St. Luke’s Catholic Church. Interment was held at 2:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, West Colonial Parkway, Devine Texas.
