George “Mike” Taylor

George “Mike” Taylor, of Castroville, passed away on August 10, 2020 at the age of 68 years. He was born October 6, 1951 in Corpus Christi, Texas to George Porter Taylor, Jr. and Evelyn Gertrude Thompson Taylor.
Mike graduated from Medina Valley High School in 1969. After his graduation from high school, Mike attended San Antonio College and became a licensed irrigator and landscaper. For many years he maintained the St. Louis Catholic Church grounds and Zion Lutheran Cemetery. He was the field director for the Pony League Softball teams and past president of the Medina Valley Moose Lodge.
On February 5, 1972, he married Gwen Bippert at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. They were blessed with over forty-eight years of marriage, three children and four grandchildren. He was an amazing and loving grandpa, his family meant everything to him. Uncle Gibby Kempf was his Godfather, and brought him into the Catholic faith and St. Louis Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Gwen Taylor of Castroville; children, Christy Taylor (Joe) of San Antonio, Mindy Lerma (Raymond) of San Antonio, Michael Taylor (Bridget) of Castroville; grandchildren, Amy Wilson, Dylan Wilson, Peyton Taylor, and Liam Taylor; mother, Evelyn Taylor of Swanee, Tennessee; brothers, Kenneth Ray Taylor (Lynn) of Swanee, Tennessee, Brian Keith Taylor of North Fort Meyers, Florida; sister, Patricia Gray (Tim) of Shelbyville, Tennessee; mother-in-law, Evangeline “Sissy” Bippert of San Antonio; in-laws, Charmaine Youngman of Castroville, Mary Uresti (Jesse) of Von Ormy, Melissa Kwapich (Michael) of Castroville, Rita Copp (Michael) of Castroville, Darryl Bippert of San Antonio; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, George P. Taylor, Jr.; his father-in-law, Delvin J. Bippert and his brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Youngman.
Public Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2020 at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home with a Vigil Service at 10:00 a.m. Immediately following the Vigil Service, a Celebration of Life will be held at Michael and Bridget’s home.
Please Note: the number of people allowed in the funeral home is limited for the Vigil Service. Face coverings are required and social distancing shall be practiced.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mike’s memory to the St. Louis Day Fund at St. Louis Catholic Church.
