George Matthew Redus

George Matthew Redus, age 93, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019. George was born on April 26, 1925 in Devine, Texas the thirteenth child of John (Clem) and Hazel Redus. He entered the Navy at the age of 16 serving in the South Pacific during World War II where he participated in twenty combat missions. He married Kathleen Feely Davis on March 17, 1951 in Laredo, Texas. He moved his family to Devine, Texas in 1957 and became an active member of the Masonic Lodge, Gideons, and the Devine First United Methodist Church. George is best remembered for his kind and gracious heart, for being dependable and having great integrity, for playing the occasional practical joke, for being a dedicated husband, father and grandfather, and for demonstrating his faith in how he lived his life.
George is preceded in death by his parents John C. and Hazel Redus, his daughter Bonnie Marie Redus, and his daughter-in-law Donna Lynn Redus. He is survived by his wife Kathleen Feely Redus, sons: George M. Redus, Jr., Clifford and wife Phyllis Redus; daughters: Kathy and husband Robbie Warner, Kitty and husband Todd Jones; grandchildren, Christopher and wife Josephine Redus, Justin Redus, Abbie and husband Chris Weller, Joel and wife Jasmine Warner, Emily and husband Everett Timmons, Matthew and wife Jessica Jones, George M. Redus III, Victor and wife Alexandra Redus, and Luke Warner; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Redus, Stephen Redus, Andrew Redus, Reagan Weller, McKinley Weller, Rowyn Jones, Angel Redus, Liam Timmons, and Emilia Jones.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Gideon’s International – Devine Pearsall Camp, P.O. Box 58, Devine, TX 78016.
Viewing was at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 26, 2019 followed by celebration of his life at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Devine. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery.
