Frio County suffers first COVID-19 death as cases continue to increase

The first death of a Frio County resident from COVID-19 was announced by Frio County officials in a press release on Monday, June 29, as cases in both that county and Atascosa County continue to rise.

“Our sincerest and most heartfelt prayers and condolences go out to the family and friends who have lost a loved one to this terrible disease,” the press release stated.

Frio County’s COVID Lifeline Dashboard reported 134 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday, June 30. Seventy-four of those cases remain active, with 60 reported recoveries.

In addition, there are 47 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the GEO detention center in Pearsall, including two currently under isolation or monitoring.

Atascosa County

The Texas Department of State Health Services reported 137 confirmed cases in Atascosa County as of Tuesday, June 30, up from 89 last week. Fifty-seven (57) cases are active, and 78 patients have recovered.

Two county residents have died.
