Fred (Rick) Gallegos

Fred (Rick) Gallegos died in his home on June 24, 2018 in Harlingen, Texas due to liver cancer. He was a former resident of Devine and Laguna Vista, Texas. Fred was born on November 11, 1947 in Devine, Texas to parents Federico and Otilia Gallegos. He served in the United States Army.
Fred was a devoted father and friend. He enjoyed working outdoors, fishing at Chacon Lake with his wife, a good game of Scrabble, refinishing furniture, traveling with his daughter, spending time with all his dogs, telling jokes, heckling his wife, and sitting outside drinking beer and chatting with neighbors. In the last two years his favorite pastimes included rocking his grandson Nickolas Finn while watching “Shootem up bang bangs” on TV and “kicking it” with his best buddie Leslie.
Fred is survived by his mother, Otilia Silvia Gallegos, his wife of 47 years, Deborah (DeeDee), daughter Nicole (Nicci) of Harlingen, TX; brother, Alfred Gallegos and his wife Lisa of San Antonio, TX; sisters, Sovieda Trevino and her husband Daniel of San Antonio, TX; Lydia Gallegos Lopez and her husband Joseph of Austin, TX; grandson, Nikolas Finn Campbell-Gallegos; nieces, Beatrice and Tasha; and nephews Timothy and Gilbert, as well as his many friends, his dog Trixie, and his many cats.
A memorial service was held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 28, 2018 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel, Texas. In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial contributions may be made to Valley Learning Center for Kids at 1916 E. Harrison Ave., Harlingen, TX 78550.
