Evelyn Thompson Lindsey

Evelyn Thompson Lindsey, age 93, of Jourdanton, TX, gained her wings Sunday, October 17, 2021. Evelyn, also known as Mother, Momma, Granny or Great Granny, was born November 28, 1927, to Crockett Shoatt and Katie Orsak Thompson at her Granny’s house in Frio County. Growing up in the farming community of Schattel, just south of Bigfoot, she told stories of having to help drive the school bus if it got stuck on the muddy roads so the driver could get out and dig them out or push. She graduated from Devine High School where she met and fell in love with Curtis Lindsey during their senior play.
She loved her family and was ready to brag any time she had the chance. Reading a good book, especially the Bible, sewing (anything from doll clothes to old fashioned sun bonnets), eating homemade ice cream, visiting with friends & loved ones and riding around in the country on the golf cart were all things she loved to do. An owl hooting, turkey gobble or coyote howling in the distance were all familiar sounds she never tired of hearing.
She enjoyed the last 12+ years at Argent Court Jourdanton where she reconnected with cousins she hadn’t seen in ages, former church friends from University Park Baptist Church in San Antonio, attended her original church home at Black Creek Baptist Church in Devine and even some former back yard neighbors from the medical center area of San Antonio. The Lord certainly had a hand in her moving there in 2009 to be near her daughter and son in law.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, Crockett Shoatt and Katie Orsak Thompson, her beloved husband of 59 ½ years Curtis E. Lindsey, Sr., sister Maxine Thompson Bradford, grandson Chad Lindsey and great-granddaughter Ceagan Roberts. She is survived by sons, Curtis E. Lindsey, Jr., George C. Lindsey (Ann) and daughter Evelyn Lynette Hudson (Elmer). Her grandchildren include Arianne Green (Kenny), Christen Roberts (Clay) and Curtis E. ‘Trey’ Lindsey, III (Tonyia). Great-grandchildren are Dyllan Lindsey (Sam – Fiance), Alana Green, Curtis E. Lindsey IV, Caleb Green, Carter Lindsey, Colbie Roberts and Tucker Lindsey. She is also survived by two nieces, Cindy Coleman (David) and Christy Burr (Steve) and a host of other family and friends.
The family wishes to thank five special friends who took extra care of her these last several months, Anna Pena, Cortni Foreman, Lucy Flores, Mary Helen Salinas and Roxanne Solis along with all the caring individuals at Argent Court Jourdanton.
