Elizabeth Cooper Chant

Elizabeth Cooper Chant

Elizabeth Ann Cooper Chant went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 5, 2021 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Elizabeth was born January 21, 1949 in San Antonio, Texas to Hughie “Earl” Eichomann Cooper and Freida Lucille (Oppermann) Cooper.
Since her dad was in the Air Force, the Coopers moved many times during Elizabeth’s childhood, including several times her senior year of high school. After her father’s retirement, the Coopers moved to Natalia, Texas, where Elizabeth met the love of her life at church. She married Jeffrey Chris Chant on August 16, 1969 at the Natalia Church of Christ. After moving to the west Texas towns of Eola and then Eden, Elizabeth and Chris remained active members of the Paint Rock and Eden Church of Christ communities.
Elizabeth received her education degree from Angelo State University. During her forty plus years in public education and while teaching in Miles and Eden, she was instrumental in the lives of those she taught in science or special education and those she coached/sponsored in tennis, cheerleading, and baseball. Elizabeth also subbed in various schools around the area including Paint Rock, Veribest, Eola, and Wall, as well as driving a school bus. Her impact was also felt outside of the public school system as an avid Girl Scout Troop sponsor when Eola schools were open, an active sponsor for the 4-H clubs within Concho County, and a long-time Bible class teacher.
Not only dedicated to her Christian faith and teaching profession, Elizabeth was devoted to her family and traveled many miles to see her children participate in numerous extra-curricular activities. The tradition continued with her grandchildren, even up until days before her hospitalization this June. Her presence and unwavering encouragement will be missed by family and friends.
Elizabeth was proceeded in death by her husband Jeffrey Chris Chant in 2019, just four months shy of their fiftieth anniversary, her parents, parental-in-laws (Novie Ernest and Altah ”Tenny” Chant), brother Bill Cooper, niece Margaret Cooper, and her brother-in-law Ivan Chant.
She leaves behind three children: Rodney Chant and wife Kristy of San Angelo, Texas, Rebecca “Becky” Hamilton of Lubbock, Texas, and Tray Chant and wife Susan of Waxahachie, Texas.
Grandchildren: Brady and Zachary Chant of San Angelo, Texas, Chloe and Andrea Hamilton of Lubbock, Texas, Michaela Flink of Lubbock, Texas, and Carrie and Emily Chant of Waxahachie,Texas.
Sister-in-laws: Jalyne Chant of Devine, Texas, Carolyn Wiemers and husband Duane of Hondo, Texas, and Glenda Allen and husband Kenny of Devine, Texas, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service for Elizabeth will be held on September 4, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. in the Eden High School Auditorium in Eden, Texas.
