Duane Virgil Engelhart was born on October 22, 1941 in Webster, South Dakota to the late Hugo Engelhart and Mary Gearin Weiss. Duane would live in South Dakota through childhood until later joining the United States Air Force in 1959. Throughout his time in the military, he served in Vietnam and completed assignments in Korea and England. After retiring from the military, he worked out of Del Rio, Texas primarily for Boeing and Coca-Cola before retiring. Upon retiring, he relocated to Devine, Texas where he became part of a strong community of special friends including a place he considered his “home away from home”, with his dear friends, the late James and Michelle (he referred to her as Kid) at Payton’s Garage. Duane enjoyed his independence, loved being able to drive his van over there to spend time with them, taking them breakfast tacos, Sonic drinks, doughnuts, running for parts and so much more. He strived to be friends with all whom he came in contact with and tried to make meaningful bonds. He was a good father who did his best to provide love, wisdom and guidance to his three children. He was a strong, proud and kind man who will be deeply missed by many.
