DPS traffic stop leads to human smuggling discovery

A DPS trooper discovered eight undocumented men hidden inside this truck’s covered trailer.

DEVINE – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is continuing to search for the driver of a truck tractor semi-trailer suspected of transporting undocumented persons in Medina County.
At approximately 8:30 a.m. Monday, a DPS Trooper noticed a truck tractor semi-trailer failed to stop at a weigh station on I-35 northbound in Frio County, south of Devine. The trooper pulled over the 2000 Freightliner truck on the access road of I-35 North and SH-173, in the city of Devine. The male driver and a male passenger in the cab fled on foot immediately after stopping and disappeared into a field of thick brush. The Trooper discovered eight suspected undocumented males hidden inside the truck’s covered trailer. All suspects were in good condition and did not need medical attention. There is an active search for the driver and his passenger.
The undocumented individuals were turned over to U.S. Border Patrol.
