Dorothy Jean Marek Jonas, age 76 of La Coste, passed away on May 9, 2017 in San Antonio. Dorothy was born July 14, 1940 in rural Bexar County, one of seven children born to Ben Richard Marek and Maudie Dorothy Schweitzer Marek. On March 4, 1958 she married Robert Jonas at a ceremony in San Antonio. Dorothy and Robert recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Together they raised two sons and two daughters, Robert, Jr., Walter, Terrianne and Sherry.
Dorothy was the owner and vice president of River City Van and Storage, Atlantic and Pacific Moving Company, Superior Transfer, Inc. and B & L Transfer, Inc. She was also a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Ben and Maudie Marek, she was preceded in death by her son, Walter Richard Jonas; infant sister, Sandra Marek and brothers, Ben Marek, Jr., Ted Marek and Raymond Marek.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Jonas of La Coste; children, Robert (Jeana) Jonas, Jr., Terrianne (Clyde) Rooks and Sherry (John) Langston, all of La Coste; grandchildren, Jennifer (Ryan) Benitez, Heather (Rodrigo) Breves, Ashley Jonas, John Langston, Jr., Robert Jonas, III, Joshua Witter, Walter Richard Jonas II and Cooper Rooks; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Carol (Gene) Horne and Bobby (Linda) Marek; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Marek, Kay Marek, Joan Marek, Lucille (Bobby) Flores and Katherine Jonas; brother-in-law, Charlie Jonas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The Funeral Service was held Monday, May 15, 2017 at 10:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church in Castroville. Interment followed at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Helotes. Memorials may be made in Dorothy’s memory to MDS Foundation, https://www.mds-foundation.org or the charity of your choice.
