
Dorothy D. Lyng passed away on August 12, 2020 at the age of 99 years. She was born July 11, 1921 to Joe “Dall”& Edna Anderson in Elk City, Oklahoma.
She is survived by her son Joe Lyng and his wife Donna; daughters Carolyn Friemel and her husband Rick, Candace De Jesus and her husband Carlos; 5 grandchildren that include Lisa Juarez and her husband Robert, Angie Freisenhahn and her husband Joey, Tamara Valentine and her husband Troy, Nathan Friemel and his wife Geleen, and Dustin Burleson and his wife Maggie. She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren; One sister and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. Her extended family includes many friends and former students from Devine and Pearsall.
Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, and was preceded in death, by her husband Oleson Lyng, her loving parents, 2 sisters, and a precious grandson Dillon Burleson. She was a Christian lady, who loved the Lord Jesus and was active in the Methodist Church. She grew up on a cotton farm in Oklahoma where she Lived through the great depression, the dust bowl days and World War II. She and her husband eventually moved to Texas in the 1950’s, where they both attended West Texas State University to became schoolteachers.They taught in various schools in the Texas panhandle near Amarillo until they moved to south Texas teaching in the elementary grades at Pearsall and Devine, TX, before retiring in the 1980’s. Dorothy always enjoyed running into former students throughout the years and had many fond memories of her time as their teacher.
She was a caring, loving, selfless person, who loved her family passionately. Her cheerful wit and words of wisdom could brighten the dreariest day. She is now and always will be greatly missed.
Visitation is scheduled on August 24th with a private family gathering from 2PM to 4PM and a public visitation from 4PM to 9PM with a prayer service from 6PM to 7PM at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel. Internment will be at 2PM August 25th at Mission Park North in San Antonio, TX.
The family has asked if you would like make donations in her memory that they be made to the American Cancer Society as she was a long term cancer survivor or to the Dementia Society of America.
