Devine City Council’s July meeting canceled

The Devine City Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, July 21 was canceled.
District 5 Councilwoman Debra Randall announced the decision in a July 18 post on her political Facebook page.
“To keep our community safer, the City Council Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, 07/21/20, has been CANCELLED,” Randall wrote. “Stay tuned for any updates.”
Mayor Cory Thompson said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution due to the spike in COVID-19 cases in Devine.
“We have been hosting the council meetings at the community center so as to facilitate the ability of citizens to attend while maintaining proper distancing,” Thompson said. “But with so many active cases, it seems like a better idea just to postpone everything at the moment.”
Thompson added that a Special meeting might be held the first week of August, but that no final decision has been made.
“Hopefully our COVID-19 cases will be down by then,” Thompson said.
Regular Council meetings are scheduled for the third Tuesday of every month.
