The following reports were included in City Council packets at the regular meeting on July 18.
Water
In June, 11,107,000 gallons of water were pumped from the Edwards Aquifer and 6,729,000 were pumped from the Carrizo Aquifer for a total of 17,836,000 gallons.
To date in 2017, the City has pumped 61,108,000 gallons of water from the Edwards, or 187.53 acre feet of the allotted 911.730 acre feet.
A total of 16,934,000 gallons of water was pumped in June 2016, including 10,695,000 gallons from the Edwards and 6,239,000 gallons from the Carrizo.
Police
The Devine Police Department received 472 calls in June. Officers were assisted by other agencies seven times, and assisted other agencies 55 times, including 20 calls for 16 hours and nine minutes outside of City limits.
Officers issued 125 warnings, 66 citations, and made 42 arrests.
Citations included 12 for speeding, 11 for driving without a license, seven for no driver’s license, six for theft – Class C, four apiece for no insurance and COV – truck parking, three for expired vehicle registration, two apiece for obscured license plate, defective tail lights, and possession of drug paraphernalia, and one each for driving without headlights, failure to signal lane change, failure to signal turn, failure to display driver’s license, no license plate, no motorcycle endors, no seat belt – driver, expired trailer registration, unsafe speed, unsafe start from stop, COV – running at large, running stop sign, criminal mischief, and assault – Class C.
Eleven arrests were made for driving without a license, 10 for possession of drugs, six for theft, three for assault – family violence, two each for warrant service, criminal mischief, possession of drug paraphernalia, and burglary, and one each for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, criminal trespass, driving while intoxicated, and interfering with an emergency call.
The nine non-salary officers worked a total of 72.3 hours of overtime.
Municipal Court
A total of 1,083 traffic and 925 non-traffic cases were pending at the first of the month. Five hundred and thirty traffic and 515 non-traffic cases were on the docket in June. Seventy-seven traffic and 39 non-traffic cases were disposed, leaving 1,065 traffic and 908 non-traffic cases pending at the end of the month.
Two civil cases remain pending.
Three drug paraphernalia cases were filed in juvenile court.
Thirty-six arrest warrants were issued for Class C misdemeanors, two for Class A and B misdemeanors, and two for felonies.
A total of $15,229.75 in fines and court costs were collected, $10,284.50 of which was kept by the City, and $4,945.25 of which was remitted to the State.
Public Works
A total of 173 work orders were issued in June, including 99 in the water department, 21 in the street department, seven at City Hall, five at the police department, three each in the sewer department and at the Driscoll Public Library, and two apiece at the Devine Municipal Airport and the park restroom.
One-hundred and seventy three of the work orders were completed.
Animal Control
Animal Control received 108 calls. One warning ticket and one ticket were issued, and $300.00 in fines were paid. Seven animal bites were reported, nine animals were returned to their owners, and 40 animals were adopted. Six cats and 15 dogs were euthanized.
Driscoll Public Library
The door count for June was 2,786, and 2,469 library materials were checked out. Public access computers were used 586 times. Thirty-four new library accounts were opened, and 62 additional library cards were issued. Programs and classes were attended by 752 patrons.
