Devine City Council election called for Nov. 3

The Devine City Council ordered a general election for the Mayoral and District 3, 4, and 5 Council seats during a Special meeting held last Tuesday, August 4.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. Early voting runs from October 13 to Oct. 30. Voting for the municipal election will be held at City Hall, while voting for state and federal elections will be held at the George S. Woods Community Center.
The election was initially scheduled for May 2 before being postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and 12 residents filed for the four seats that are up for grabs.
District 3 incumbent David Espinosa faces opposition from Elmon Ohlhausen and Jose Pedorza.
District 4 Councilman Charles Guzman was appointed to his role after the seat was left vacant following the January resignation of former Councilwoman Jennifer Schott. Guzman is running to keep the seat, and is being challenged by Richard Covarrubia Jr., Jesus E. Hernandez, and Kathy Lawler.
District 5 Councilwoman Debra Randall was appointed to her seat in September 2019 following Cory Thompson’s transition to mayor. Randall is facing a challenge from Sandy Herrera.
Thompson was appointed mayor in July 2019 following Bill Herring’s resignation from that role, and is being challenged by Angela Pichardo.
