DeLucia named Devine VFW Firefighter of the Month

Scott DeLucia

There is no question that Devine fire and rescue is making big moves, and producing great first responders. This month’s Firefighter of the Month is no different.
Scott DeLucia was born in a small town in Central Florida, and in 1988 joined the US Army.
“Growing up I loved fishing, hunting and all things animals, I also wanted to serve, so that lead me to join the Army Veterinary corps. I was honored and blessed to serve with so many folks who love this country,” Delucia Said.
So how did a man who served with 1st Special Forces Group (Airrborne), 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and units from Asia, Africa, and around the world working on military working dogs end up in Devine?
“Well After 23 years of service and becoming the lead non-commissioned officer in the DOD military dog working program as a Master Sergeant, I was ready to retire somewhere I could enjoy life. So now I have my ranch with cattle, I can enjoy the outdoors and all the things I love right here in a community I love.”
So we asked firefighter DeLucia what brought you to Devine Fire and rescue? DeLucia replied “Well after learning that a home had burned near where I live, and seeing Devine Volunteer Fire Department in action, I decided to apply and see if they would accept me. They did thankfully! Although my expertise is on animals, specifically working dogs, in a combat battlefield environment, treating wounds and injuries, I thought my training might be useful.”
Chief Atkinson chimed in, “Do not let his humbleness fool you, Scott has only been here a few months and is already a huge asset teaching classes, making runs, and is apart of the first ever Devine Fire and EMT academy getting his certification as an Emergency Medical Technician.”
Chief Atkinson continued “Scott makes us better, he is a prime example of using his previous experiences combined with our trainings to become an amazing first Responder for this community.”
So Firefighter DeLucia what are your plans at DVFD? His response “I want to increase my skills, become an integral part of the team, and help my community. Long term I’d love to become an instructor at the academy, and teach the next generation how to serve their community.”
Well Firefighter DeLucia, we are lucky to have you as a first Responder, and congratulations on being this month’s Devine Volunteer fire and Rescue department’s Firefighter of the month!
