Crews fighting fires versus 49+ MPH winds

By Kayleen Holder and KK Calame
Officials are asking people to please, please not burn. Firefighters all across Medina County were working as many as four fires at one time this Tuesday around 2 pm. Emergency Coordinator Mark Chadwick called to give us an update as he was enroute to yet another fire. Winds have reached 46 MPH in Medina County, he said.
“All departments in the county are active today. They are running. We’ve got some

great guys and ladies out there putting a stop to it, but there are just so many,” Chadwick said. “We are working four right now. One on FM 2200, one on Hwy 173, one on PR 2511, and another on I-35 near FM 3176.”
Down the road, Lytle VFD and all surrounding departments were as busy as could be fighting fires in their own districts and assisting neighboring districts in between their own calls. Lytle and Natalia VFD’s were working a fire on I-35 N in a brushy area near the weigh station and helping deal with the scene of arching power lines near 132/6711 when we spoke to them for an update.
