7th Grade

The 7th grade Colts did a great job competing against our rival the Hondo Owls on Thursday, September 28th, winning 44-0.

The defense really set the tone throughout the game by securing its second shut-out of the year.  The D-line, Linebackers, and Secondary meshed perfectly.  Tracen Rice and Jathen Razo delivered the boom on one hit on a kick off.  Jaieden Burford played the QB position about as well as one could.  He accounted for 4 TDs.  Marcus Rodriguez continued to be a work horse of a RB.  He got into the end zone 4 times himself.  Aaron Saenz also scored on a long pass from Burford.

“What is really scary about this ball club is that we have yet to play to our full capabilities.  If we ever do we will be hard to beat,” stated Coach Quenton Sanders.

“The defense never let Hondo get started.  They had to punt on almost every possession, and one of them ended up as a safety.  Multiple kids played at every position so we were able to stay fresh and aggressive, said Coach Lon Cozby.

8thGrade

The 8th grade Colts also played a good game against Hondo on Thursday winning 20-0.

In the first quarter Brady Hackebeil had a 20 yd run off a nice fake to Xavier Contreras. Zack Rico attempted a 2 point goal but it was not good making the score 6-0.  Also Sage Cruz had a 17 yd run around the outside, but Xavier Contreras’ 2 pt attempt was not good bringing the score to 12-0.

In the third quarter Peyton Carr had a 60 yard punt return for a TD called back for holding.  Joey Blanquiz had a huge crack back block and Kannon Ramirez had a great block down field to help Peyton find the endzone.  Hackebeil had a 5 yd keep up the middle and 2 points by Zack Rico was good off a nice block from Robert Rosas, making the score 20-0.

“We played very well on offense.  Hondo has size and were good competition, but our offensive line really stepped up,” said Coach Lon Cozby.

“Our defense played great again.  Mason Martinez had his best game to date.  He had a huge forced fumble in the final minutes that was recovered by Zack Rico to preserve a shutout,” added Coach Cozby.

Due to the excessive rain the venue had to be moved to Hondo and unfortunately, the B team games were cancelled.

The Colts play at Bandera on Wednesday, October 4th.
