Clean-up day Oct. 16

Welcome to October! For the week ending Oct. 3rd, our officers handled 54 calls for service. We only had one arrest; a traffic stop resulted in the driver being arrested on a felony dope charge. So, only one ride was given to the county jail…this one was to Jourdanton.
We had a few too many property crimes last week, I like when those are in the slim to none range. Here you go: #1 – Quicksilver Automotive reported that 3 catalytic converters were cut off vehicles. #2 – A business owner on Main St. reported some documents missing from his office. #3 – CVS Pharmacy reported that a man entered the store and filled up a bag with facial products and took off. We are talking about $1500 worth of the “expensive” stuff. I am sure these items will end up for sale online somewhere. Yes, someone will meet this fellow in a parking lot in San Antonio and buy facial products, because they are getting a “good” deal. #4 – At travel trailer was broken into on CR 681.The owner reported that 3 firearms were taken. #5 – A 16’ bumper pull flatbed trailer was stolen from a construction site on Cottage St. (Three new duplexes). It was loaded with lumber. The theft was reported on Sunday morning, by Sunday evening it was recovered. The Atascosa Co. Sheriff’s Office located it on Highway 16. I understand it had a stolen skid steer (Bobcat) on it and it got stuck in the mud and the pickup hauling it took off. It brings me peace knowing that they not only lost their recently stolen trailer but an expensive piece of equipment as well.
Most interesting call of the week…. Officers were dispatched to the Subway sandwich shop (I included sandwich shop because people all over the world read this and they might think I am talking about an underground transportation system). The caller thought they were maybe being robbed since they were told the business was closing and things seemed odd. Lt. Dear checked it out. Well, it was something more common than a robbery, the dreaded “workforce shortage”. There are just too many jobs out there and not enough people who want to work.
Looking for something to do this Sunday (Oct. 10th)? The St. Andrew’s Church has a big festival, with lots of famous people performing. They always have lots of good food too! Check it out.
Speaking of work… The City of Lytle has a Clean-Up Day set for Saturday, Oct. 16. The event will run from 9A – 1 PM. They are looking for volunteers to make the event a success. Check the city’s website for more information. There will be three locations for roll-off dumpsters, it looks like a heck of an event.
I think I will start saving up my trash now to ensure a successful event.
