ESD4 looks to hire EMS Director,Plans to lease Ambulances, build a new station and go back to locally run service for Devine/Natalia

The Medina County Emergency Services District No.4 announced this week they are accepting applications until March 31 for a new position, EMS Director. The EMS Director will run the service locally with leased ambulances as of October 1, 2024 instead of hiring a provider like they have done for many years. The current provider is Allegiance, whom they pay 16,666.67 a month for their EMS service to Devine and Natalia areas. Devine operated the EMS service locally many years ago.
Currently the MCESD #4 has a tax base that funds it, with the addition the this past few months of the newly voter approved…

Medina County voters re-elect Sheriff Brown, several races go to runoffs

The results are in… over 8,800 people came out to vote in the Medina County primary election. Voters overwhelmingly elected to “keep Randy Brown Sheriff.” There were several contested races this year in Medina County and three of those races will go to runoffs in May including the two county commissioner seats.

According to the Preliminary Election Reconciliation report, there are over 37,120 registered voters in Medina County, of the 8,805 that voted, 204 were mail-in ballots of which 27 were rejected or are pending. There are 27 mail-in ballots and 14 provisional ballots that could be added to the final count.

According to the Elections Administrator Lupe Torres,  early voting for runoff races will be held May 20 through May 24 between 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Election Day will be May 28.

Local US Army Veteran wins vehicle on Pay it Forward ticket

No one has made more sacrifices for our country than the men and women in our Armed Forces. Local soldier, Julian Gutierrez of Moore, stopped by the News office this week to share his good news, a pay it forward act of kindness.
He won a beautiful black 2024 GLB 2450 Mercedes Benz. Julian retired as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army after 23 years of service including two tours, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom and has struggled with his health ever since. Young man inspires all

Jacob and Michelle Cashion and family are so grateful to Tristan’s 1st grade teacher Mrs. Julia Hoog and his school nurse Kellie Jopling for thier actions, going above and beyond to help provide the family with a clear picture of symptoms they observed, which ultimately led doctors to the discovery of a brain tumor and the emergency surgery this young man needed.

Cashion Family thanks teacher/nurse for actions that may have saved his life

This week we want to recognize an outstanding young citizen, Tristan Cashion, a first grader in Devine who recently earned his spot on the Honor Roll at Ciavarra Elementary, despite facing some pretty big challenges. Recently, diagnosed with a brain tumor, Tristan underwent four surgeries within a matter of six days. Tristan is now back at school, and is undergoing an oral chemo treatment.
The Cashions are extremely grateful for the support they’ve received from this amazing community, and shared how Tristian’s 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Julia Hoog, and the school nurse Kellie Jopling are truly heroes in their eyes.

Lytle tables action on ordinance addressing future leaks afterone resident gets$2,400 water bill

The Lytle City Council tabled action this past Monday on amending city ordinances involving adjustment to utility bills to compensate for major water loss resulting from major leaks in customer plumbing. The amendment came in the wake of a recent $2,400 residential water loss.
City staff reported that four residential leaks of the same size had been reported in the previous two years.

Divine Savior Lutheran’s 9th Annual “Gift of Hope”Benefiting Thea Marie Keskinen-BurkeBBQ, Silent Auction, Live Music April 20th

Six-year-old Thea Marie, of Devine, will be the recipient of the Gift of Hope fundraiser this year, which will help the family get a Seizure Alert dog for Thea.

Thea Marie Keskinen-Burke, a cheerful, adorable, six-year-old girl, is a source of joy to everyone she meets. She will be the recipient of the “Gift of Hope” fundraiser this year. The event will take place at the Divine Savior Lutheran Church’s Fellowship Hall (405 Ingram Rd.) on Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 11AM-1PM.
Thea has never met a person she could not bring a smile to. She loves God and her family, and it shines through in everything she does. Once, while at the store, there were crosses being sold at the entrance. When Thea saw the crosses she exclaimed, “That’s my Jesus cross,” and proceeded to tell everyone around that Jesus died on the cross to save us and how He loves all of us very much.
