Devine teen faces 2 felony charges after student collapses in vaping incident

Devine PD and EMS was dispatched to a Devine school bus on Wilson Drive this past April 9. One student was transported to Medina Regional Hospital while another student will face 2 felony charges.

3 Devine FCCLA students advance to Nationals !!!

Several Devine FCCLA students placed at the state meet last Thursday.
Kamden Paige won 1st place with Interpersonal Communications and Collier Paige and Urijah Thompson won 1st place with their program National Programs in Action.
First and second places will advance to Nationals in Orlando, Florida in July.
Also placing at the state level were Amy Outlaw and Myla Sorrell received 4th place with their program Focus on Children.

Devine shot a two-day score of 660 to place behind only team champion Pleasanton who posted 636 at the March 31, April 1 District 27-4A Golf Tournament. Day One was played in Uvalde, Day Two in Floresville.
Jameson Ramirez, Jacob Sollock, Aaron Gallegos, Gavin Williamson, and Eli Valles now advance to Regional along with Head Coach Mark Mangold and assistant coach Jacob Alegria.
Ramirez led the Horses with 156 (80/76) and placed 5th overall followed by Sollock with 160 (84/76) while placing 6th overall.
Gallegos was next with 161 (77/84-7th), then Williamson at 188 (91/97-17th), and Valles 192 (100/92).
Team rankings
1st Pleasanton 636 (322/314), 2nd Devine 660 (332/328), 3rd Floresville 661 (340/321), 4th Uvalde 731 (362/369), 5th Floresville “B” 759 (404/355), 6th Carrizo Springs 776 (404/372).

Devine clinched the District 27-4A Golf Championship with their two-day score of 752, which was 58 strokes ahead of runner-up Pleasanton who posted 810. Floresville was an even more-distant third with 938.
Day One was played in Uvalde on March 31, followed by Day Two in Floresville on April 1.
Brianna Schaefer, Gabby Morales, Mackenzie Ramirez, Kenadi Marek, and Briana Balderrama await Regional along with Head Coach Mark Mangold and assistant coach Jacob Alegria.
Schaefer played tremendous as she was 2nd Medalist overall after shooting 91 on Day One and 87 on Day Two for a two-day score of 178. Her 178 was only two shy of district champion Payton Garza of Pleasanton who posted 176 (88/88).
Morales had a terrific outing as well as she placed 3rd overall with a 185 (93/92).
Ramirez gave Devine three of the top four spots as she finished 4th overall, also with a 185 (91/94).
Marek was barely out of the top 5 as she placed 6th with a score of 205 (96/109).
Balderrama came in 11th place overall at 220 (112/108).
Kenzie Schott played as an individual medalist and place 15th overall at 234 (116/118).

1st Devine 178 (91/87), 2nd Pleasanton 810 (403/407), 3rd Floresville 938 (468/470), 4th Somerset 1,010 (505/505), 5th Carrizo Springs 1,072 (544/528).

Devine High principal resigns, effective immediately

Devine High School Principal Juan Michael Gonzalez has resigned, effective immediately, district superintendent Todd Grandjean reports. Retired Devine Intermediate Principal Blain Martin will replace Gonzalez for the rest of the school year.

in the wake of complaints from district parents regarding his recent remarks regarding educational aspirations for Devine ISD students. He offered an apology to those parents during the March 24 regular meeting of the school board.
Grandjean said the opening for high school principal has already been posted on a statewide job website for educators.
“Finding principals is always challenging but also exciting,” Grandjean said.
Gonzalez was hired by Devine ISD in May of 2022. Before joining Devine ISD in 2022 he served as a middle school assistant principal in San Antonio ISD for two years. He also served as an assistant principal in Austin ISD for nine years. He also served as a coordinator for the global STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) competition known as F! in Schools Formula 1 STEM Challenge.

It’s official: Lytle High School is an AWARD-WINNING video production program. With hundreds of films to compete against each year, students have had ten documentaries place in the TOP SIX in the State UIL Young Filmmakers competition, since its inception in 2014. And, in February 2023 and 2024, Lytle won back-to-back UIL State Championship honors. Lytle filmmakers will compete at the UIL Young Filmmakers State Competition again on February 26 in Austin.

Local city/school ELECTIONS…Feb 14 filing deadline


City of Lytle council ballot

Filing ends at 5:00 pm on February 14, 2025 at the City of Lytle office, 14916 Main St. Positions expiring May 1 are: Districts 1, 2 and 3 currently being held by Aldermen Aguirre (1), Hughes (2) and Emery (3).
Filings so far for a place on the ballot are Richard Hughes for District 2 and David Emery for District 3, as of Tuesday morning, Feb. 4. The City of Lytle operates with a Mayor-Council form of government. The council consists of five Aldermen that each serve a single member district.
The City Council’s primary duty is policy making. The council identifies the needs of the city’s residents and provides programs to meet the changing requirements of the community and measure the effectiveness of ongoing services in the city. See qualifications for becoming a Council member at lytletx.org. Currently serving are : Ruben Gonzalez-Mayor; Miguel Aguirre-Alderman, District 1; Richard Hughes-Alderman, District 2; David Emery-Alderman, District 3; Michael Rodriguez- Alderman, District 4; and Matthew Martinez- Alderman, District 5.

Nine more days to file for City of Devine council
February 14 deadline
The City of Devine will be calling for a mayoral and city alderman election to be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Positions currently held by Butch Cook, Mayor and Michael Hernandez (District 2) and Debbie Randall (District 5) are expiring.
Filing so far are: Butch Cook for Mayor, Hal Lance, Jr. for District 5 and Michael Hernandez for District 2. Deadline to file for a position is Friday, February 14th by 5:00 p.m. at city hall.
All voters can vote in the mayoral election. You have to live in the district you want to run for. And you must live in the district to vote on a district race.

Feb. 14 deadline to file for Devine ISD trustee election
Devine ISD will be calling for a school board election for District 2 and the two At-Large positions to be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Positions currently held by Carl Brown (District 2), Renee Frieda (At-Large) and Chris Davis (At-Large) are expiring. So far only Chris Davis has filed for election, At-Large position, and Carl Brown (District 2).
Deadline to file for a position is Friday, February 14th by 5:00 p.m. at the Superintendent’s Office.

Former DISD student Harper Parson earns highest honor degree achievable in National FFA, the American FFA Degree

Harper C. Parson, class of 2023 Devine High School Salutatorian is the first Devine FFA member in over a decade to earn the coveted American FFA Degree; Harper has set a new standard of excellence within his chapter and community obtaining the highest degree achievable in the National FFA Organization.
The gold standard. The American FFA Degree shows an FFA member’s dedication to his or her chapter and state FFA association. It demonstrates the effort FFA members apply toward their supervised agricultural experience and the outstanding leadership abilities and community involvement they exhibited through their FFA career. Harper is currently a member of Texas A&M University class of 2027.
