Words “bomb threat” on school answering machine prompts evacuation and search

A message left on an answering machine at the Devine Middle School, with the words “bomb threat” in it, prompted officials to take quick action to secure the safety of the children and staff early last Friday morning, April 14, 2017 right before school was to begin. UTSA presents vision plan for IH-35 development, downtown revitalization

The UTSA team presented a number of different 3D renderings of what downtown Devine could look like. This shows the revitalized grain silo, Driscoll Public Library, and train depot.
This rendering features the train depot in the foreground. To the left is a revitalized version of the current City Hall, which the USTA team envisioned as the new location of the Driscoll Public Library and George S. Woods Community Center. Also visible are the rehabbed grain silo, currently-derelict historic buildings, and the Four Corners.

Representatives from UTSA’s Center for Urban and Regional Planning Research and the Rural Business Program presented a vision plan for the future of Devine from IH-35 down Hwy. 173 to the downtown district in a public meeting held in the George S. Woods Community Center on March 30.

Devine City Council tables consideration of First Baptist Church property

The Devine City Council voted unanimously to take no action on the possible purchase of the former Whitfield and Briscoe properties now owned by the First Baptist Church in a Special meeting held Thursday, March 30.
