Phillip Frank Eggleston of Devine, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025, at the age of 86.
Born on January 1, 1939, in Sanderson, Texas, Phillip was the son of Eliza Lee Eggleston and Vada Ellen Summers Eggleston. On December 21, 1962, he married the love of his life, Martha Harrington, in their hometown of Sanderson.
Phillip dedicated over 40 years of service to the railroad industry before retiring in Devine. He was a hardworking man known for his quiet strength, loyalty, and deep love for his family. Those who knew him well will miss the many stories he loved to share. According to his brother George, Phillip was the best big brother anyone could ask for—always kind, steady, and full of wisdom.
He is preceded in death by his beloved son, Ward Lee Eggleston, and his cherished granddaughter, Daphne Bree Garcia.
Phillip is survived by his devoted wife, Martha Eggleston; his daughter, Phylis Garcia of Devine, Texas; his brother, George Eggleston and wife Ethel of Natalia, Texas; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Biry Hermann Sons Lodge Building, located at 111B S. Teel Ave., Devine, Texas. A luncheon will follow the service.

Doris Ohlinger McOsker
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doris Ohlinger McOsker, age 86 of Lytle, Texas, Thursday, April 10, 2025 at her residence. She was born July 26, 1938, in Gallipolis, Ohio, a daughter of the late Theresa Clark and Pearl Ohlinger who raised Doris in New Haven, West Virginia.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Floyd McOsker, son Roger Santos, daughter Sharon Pilgrim, brother Robert Ohlinger, sister Dorothy Ohlinger Roush.
Doris was a force of nature in every phase of her life. Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother, colleague, friend. Doris worked many years in the Radiology Department at Nix Hospital in San Antonio. She enjoyed country music, dancing, lake and deep-sea fishing, playing softball, collecting fossils, rocks and petrified wood, reading, golf, feeding the deer and hummingbirds.
Doris is survived by a combined loving family including three sons, seven daughters, 23 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and other family members who will miss her.
Procession to the burial will begin at 9:30am, Thursday, May 1, 2025 from the Primrose Funeral Home in Lytle, Texas, located at 14822 Main Street, Lytle, Texas 78052. Graveside services at 10am, Black Hill Cemetery, IH 35 South Access Road at Lucky Road, Lytle, Texas 78052.

Yuliana is a bright and joyful 5-year-old who brings happiness to everyone around her, with a glowing smile. Although she uses a wheelchair to assist getting around, this doesn’t stop her from exploring the world in her own unique way.
One of her greatest loves is music. Whether she’s listening to her favorite songs or moving along to the rhythm, music brings her immense joy and helps her connect with the world. She also enjoys watching a variety of shows on television, where she finds entertainment and inspiration in the characters and stories she watches.
Though expressing herself verbally can be challenging, Yuliana continues to thrive, supported by her loving caregivers. Every day, she displays resilience, joy, and a unique sense of wonder, reminding those around her of the beauty and strength she carries within. She may experience the world differently, but her vibrant spirit and love for life shine brightly, filling hearts with warmth and admiration.
Yuliana is looking for a family that can provide a safe, nurturing, and stable environment. She wants a family that is loving, patient, and understanding, where she feels accepted and supported.

Public Hearing on reducing SPEED LIMIT TO 40 on CR 6612
Speak now or forever hold your speed…..Medina County will conduct a Public Hearing to receive public comment and to vote regarding ESTABLISHMENT OF A SPEED LIMIT of 40 MPH on County Road 6612 in Precinct 4. The Hearing will be May 5th in Hondo at 9AM.
Pursuant to Texas Transportation Code section 251.152, notice is hereby given that the Commissioners Court of Medina County will conduct a Public Hearing for the purpose of receiving public comment and voting regarding the following ESTABLISHMENT OF SPEED LIMIT of 40 miles per hour on County Road 6612 in Precinct 4.

ABOUT ME: My family came to the United States from Austria in 1867 and became farmers in black creek area of Medina County.
I graduated from Texas A&M University, College Station with a Bachelor of Science Degree and was commissioned second lieutenant US Army Field Artillery in Dec 1987.
I served 24 years active duty and did two combat tours in Mogadishu, Somalia and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Decided after the military to become an educator helping students with learning disabilities and language barriers.
I have 4 years of service in my teacher’s retirement account at Bandera ISD in early childhood and middle school. After Bandera ISD worked at Medina Valley ISD as a school bus driver. Decided to go back into education and became a student at Alamo College as a Social Science and English Support Language (ESL) student working towards teacher certification. In addition to being a student, I am very active at Texas A&M Alum with the 12th Man Foundation for Athletics scholarships and the Presidents Foundation – Heritage Society for Sul Ross Scholarships. I am very dedicated to helping students find a way to afford college and achieving their educational goals in life. Help me educate my kid and your kids together in Devine ISD.

Early voting ongoing in Devine ISD Election Day, May 3rd last day to vote
Devine ISD is hosting their annual trustee election on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Early voting started on Tuesday, April 22 at central office.
There are four candidates seeking the two At-Large positions. The two candidates who get the most votes will win the positions which are for a three year term.
Candidates include Chris Davis (incumbent) and Renee Frieda (incumbent), Candace Esparza, and Robert Travis Hildt. Frieda (incumbent), Candace Esparza, and Robert Travis Hildt.
Carl Brown, District 2 is unopposed.
All registered voters living in the Devine ISD school district boundaries may vote for the 2 positions from the 4 candidates.
Early Voting dates and hours are: April 22-25 plus April 28-29, all at the DISD Central Office from 8 am to 5 pm daily.
Election day voting is from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm on Sat. May 3 at the central office as well, 605 W Hondo Ave, Devine.

Bat with rabies found inside Castroville residence
Castroville Animal Control has notified the public about a dead bat found on Thursday 4/17/25 inside of a residence at the Country Villa Apartments in Castroville, Tx. The bat was picked up by Animal Services of Castroville and submitted for testing and came back positive for Rabies. Another post on social media noted that a raccoon displaying symptoms of rabies was also captured in the City of Castroville recently. We have reached out about this incident but have not heard back on whether or not rabies was confirmed in the raccoon also.
According to a social media post by Castroville Animal Control:
We would like to take this time to remind the public to take the necessary steps to reduce possible transmission of Rabies.
In general, if you find an injured, sick, or dead bat, do not touch it. If you need assistance, contact your local animal control agency or local health department.
Bat bites are not always visible.
