Hunter Alston, of Devine, played in the National Championship Sports World Series in Florida this past weekend with his team Alamo City WolfPack. Hunter also competed in the skills challenge against 48 kids from Texas, Alabama, and Florida, winning the Home Run Derby with 4 total homeruns.

The total that the team has brought into Medina County veterans alone is up from approximately $40 million in 2020 to $46 million in 2021.

Leona Cordelia Bradley was born on January 2, 1918 to Marcus Nathan Smith and Susie Cordelia Breed Smith, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at the age of 104. Leona, known by most as Nana or Aunt Polly, was preceded in death by her parents and husband Harvey Lee Bradley and her two sons: Jack Norman Bradley and Donald Morris Bradley. She is survived by daughters-in-law: Cindy Bradley and Connie Bradley; grandchildren: Jack Bradley Jr. (Lisa) of Natalia, TX, Pamela Dotson (Ward)of Wynne, AR, Gina Erpelding (Brett) of Castroville, TX, Kelly Ebelt (George) of Spring, TX, Donald Bradley Jr. (Christy) of Pearsall, TX and Cory Bradley of Natalia, TX; great grandchildren: Joshua Bradley (Amber), Kyle Dotson (Claudia), Kayla Grossi (Stephen), Amanda Betancourt (Philip), Jacob Bradley, Bradley Mangold, Jamie Bradley, William Bradley (Mariana), Madison Bradley, and Emma Ebelt; great great grandchildren: Christian, Maverick, Lorelai, Paislee, Thomas, and Tristan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Tom ‘Tommy’ Bendele of Zapata, Texas passed away on July 21, 2022 at the age of 62. He was born September 3, 1959 in Hondo, Texas to Leo J. Bendele and Elizabeth Hutzler Bendele. In 1977, Tommy graduated from Medina Valley High School. After high school, he attended technical school in Waco. Tommy worked as an automobile mechanic for almost thirty years. He and his brother, James, owned and operated Falcon Lake Tackle. Survivors include his children, Brad Bendele (Kristen) of Castroville and Nicole Obiedo (Chris) of San Antonio; grandchildren, Alissa Obiedo, Brayden Obiedo, Hailey Bendele, Kinsey Bendele, and Connor Bendele; mother, Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Bendele of Devine; siblings, JoAnn Viney (Shelton) of Midland, James Bendele (Linda) of Zapata, and Barbara FitzSimon (Mark) of Castroville; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives. Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Leo J. Bendele. Mr. Mendoza is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers: Daniel and Paul Mendoza. He is survived by his sons: Mario (Janie) Andrade, Lytle, TX, Omar Mendoza, Milwaukee,Wisconsin; daughters: Dori (James) Mendoza Hoffins, Rockford, IL, Monica (Richard Jass) Mendoza Camacho, Veronica Mendoza; sisters: Olga Curcio of Devine, TX, Norma Valle, Devine, TX, Sandra Ramos, Devine, TX and Melissa Mendoza, Farmington, MI; 13 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and one on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews, special friends and other relatives. Joyce Nell Silvey of Moore, Texas was born on May 2, 1931 in Gonzales, Texas to Robert Acey Thompson and Lucinda Looney Thompson, passed away on July 20, 2022 at the age of 91. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Frank H. Silvey, daughter: Donna Jean Carroll Albrecht, son: Danny Carroll, brother: Bob Thompson and two sisters: Doris and Dorothy. She is survived by her sons: Dewayne Carroll of Three Rivers, TX, Kelly (Jo Ann) Carroll of Devine, TX; daughter-in-law: Shirley of Devine; daughters: Deborah Dee Carroll Wallace and husband Larry of Devine, TX, Daphne Gail Dubose Stepp and husband Ron of Houston, TX and Jeanette Danean Dubose Summers of San Antonio, TX; brother: John Thompson; 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren; and other relatives. Celebration of Life for Don Helton is scheduled for July 30, 2022 at 5 PM at their residence at 1166 CR 772 Natalia, TX 78059. All surrounding volunteer fire departments are welcome to attend. Don Helton has been a volunteer firefighter at Natalia for 19 years; he began service at the department in July, 2003. He served the department for many years as the safety officer. He also worked many years with the American Red Cross in San Antonio and surrounding areas and to help fellow community members in need. Don Helton was born July 3, 1943 and went to meet his Lord on July 2, 2022 with his family by his side at the age 74.
