Here is a quick look at all the action that took place last week…Officers handled 41 service calls and conducted 64 traffic stops. Of those 64 stops 48 resulted in citations and 16 were either verbal or written warnings.
We had two property crimes reported. The Days Inn reported that a “guest” smashed the screen on a $200 television and a vendor making a delivery at Lytle Crossing had someone “lift” his handheld computer after he set it down.
We had two decent arrests. The story starts off….Last Thursday we were celebrating my Grandmother’s 89th birthday. We had a wonderful dinner in San Antonio (she paid because I was running a little tight on funds) and we were headed back to Lytle when I observed a vehicle that was all over the roadway and almost crashed three or four times. I called Officer David Lopez and had him set up on 35. He got the vehicle stopped, what I thought was another adult in the front passenger seat was actually a 2 year old standing up! There was also a 3 month old in a car seat. After a roadside investigation the driver was arrested for possession of heroin, other charges are possible. It could have only been the grace of God protecting the two small children in that vehicle.
Hats off to Ofc. Jose Guzman, he checked out a vehicle at John Lott Park a little after midnight on Friday and hit the “warrant jackpot.” He identified a fellow passed out in a car as a wanted felon out of New Mexico. This guy had 2 warrants for child abuse and 3 warrants for domestic violence! He was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. He should thank Ofc. Guzman for the all-expenses paid “spring break road trip” he will be taking to the lovely Lea County Detention Center in Lovington NM.
The Animal Care and Control annual indoor yard sale was a “smashing” success. The proceeds this year set an all-time high with $3,725.94 being raised. I told you people really show support when it’s for the animals. Betty Kroeger told me that they had at least one person slip out without paying for some clothes. See even our local crooks show up when it’s for the animals.
