The Varsity Arabians headed to Blanco for tournament action against Comfort, Wimberley, and Smithson Valley’s JV on Thursday, March 2, notching two wins before the tournament was rained out.
Comfort
Devine got a confidence-boosting win by crushing the Comfort Deer 21-1.
After giving up a run to Comfort to start the game, the Arabians responded by scoring a whopping 17 runs in the bottom of the inning. Devine batted around twice, with nearly every player tallying either a hit or a walk, and all scoring at least twice.
The Arabians plated four more runs in the bottom of the second inning to end the game via the 20-run rule.
Devine finished with 21 hits, six walks, and five stolen bases.

Wimberley
The Wimberley Lady Texans proved to be a different caliber of competition, and Devine was held scoreless in a 3-0 loss.
Wimberley used two singles and an error to score twice in the first inning, adding their final run of the game thanks to a single and a double in the 6th inning.
Devine was limited to just three hits in the game.
Pitching: Carr 5 1/3 IP, 3 ER, 9 hits.
Smithson Valley JV
The Arabians found their groove again against Smithson Valley’s JV squad, winning 11-3.
Carr led off the game with a single in the top of the 1st inning and came around to score after Ortiz drew a walk and Jay drew an error.
Ramirez walked to lead off the 2nd inning, and Martin followed with a two-out home run to put Devine up 3-0.
Jay hit a one-out double to center field in the top of the 3rd inning, coming around to score on Gutierrez’s two-out single.
Smithson Valley made some noise in the bottom of the 3rd inning, scoring three times on three singles to cut Devine’s lead to 4-3
The Arabians proved up to the challenge, scoring five times in the top of the 4th inning to put the game away.
Carr led off the inning with a single and was driven in by Ortiz. Stehle’s double drove in Ortiz, and Jay followed with a two-run shot to clear the bases. Later in the inning, Ramirez singled, advanced to second on Gutierrez’s single, and was knocked in by Freeman’s base hit to go up 9-3
Devine’s final runs came in the top of the 5th inning. Stehle drew a one-out walk, Jay followed with a single, and Arche drove in both with a double to single for the 11-3 win, improving to 12-5 on the season.
The Arabians finished with 15 hits and four walks.
Pitching: Ramirez 5.0 IP, 3 ER, 5 hits, 4 strikeouts.
“We have been shuffling girls around because of the flu, and we still have been performing well,” Head Coach Mark Mangold said. “Jessie Ramirez and Taylor Carr pitched. Jaylyn Stewart hit .600 for the tournament, and Taylor Carr hit .500 for the tournament. Brittany Jay and Tori Martin both hit home runs.”

The Arabians will be in action again next Tuesday, March 14 when they host the Lytle Lady Pirates.
