The Varsity Arabians did not get off to a great start in their win against Crystal City last Friday night. The team started off sluggish and made mistakes while Crystal City played a great game with very few mistakes. The set scores show where Devine took control in the fourth set for the win, 26-24, 23-25, 25-23, and 25-14.
“We made too many mistakes in the first three sets and really had to fight for every point we scored. Crystal City also did not make a lot of mistakes in those sets. But in the fourth set the girls really turned it on and took control of the whole set. This was a huge win for us to at least have a share of the district championship. A win Tuesday will give us sole possession of the district championship,” said Coach Leigh Anne McIver.
Alissa Stehle and Kaylee Howard each served 2 aces, and Sara Moreno and Macey Hein each had 1. Sierra Pompa had 23 kills, Stehle 10, Dana Aaron 5, and Megan Runyan 4. Setter Hein had 42 assists. S. Pompa led with 46 digs, followed by Gabby Rodriguez 43, Stehle 33, Moreno 21, Hein 15, Runyan 11, Howard 7, Madison Pike 4, Aaron 3 and Jasmine Pompa 1.
As of Friday night’s games Hondo is 5-2, Crystal City is 4-3, Carrizo Springs 2-4, and Pearsall is 0-7 as reported on Maxpreps.com. Crystal City is finished with district play. Hondo will play Carrizo Springs and Devine will face Pearsall on their court. Tuesday night’s games will decide the bi-district playoffs!
