The Varsity Arabians overcame a fast start by Carrizo Springs and put up four runs in the 7th inning to beat the Lady Wildcats last Tuesday, March 21.
Devine’s offense broke out in the top of the 4th inning, with the Lady Wildcats already leading 3-0. Jaylyn Stewart legged out a one-out infield single, and Jenna Sadler followed with a single to left field. Pitcher Amanda Wilson then stepped up to the plate and smacked a two-out single to left to drive in both Stewart and Sadler. Brooklyn Anderson’s long single split the gap between the left and center fielders, giving Wilson time to score all the way from first and tie the game 3-3.
Carrizo Springs had regained the advantage to lead 4-3 when the Arabians tied the game again, this time in the top of the 6th inning when Brittany Jay cranked a solo home run over the left field fence.
The Arabians then put up a four-spot in the top of the 7th inning to surge to the lead. Jessie Ramirez and Julie Ortiz started the inning with back-to-back singles, and Korin Stehle followed with a one-out single to center to drive both in for a 6-4 lead. Stehle scored on Sadler’s two-out single, and Sadler herself crossed the plate on Wilson’s single to left to give Devine the 8-4 advantage.
The Lady Wildcats managed one more run in the bottom of the 7th before Devine put them away for good.
Devine had 12 hits and left five runners on base. Carrizo Springs had nine hits and left six runners on base. The Lady Wildcats also committed one error.
Wilson pitched a complete game in the win, giving up five earned runs on nine hits and one walk while recording nine strikeouts.
