Amalia Cardenas Castellanos, of Castroville, passed away on September 21, 2019 at the age of 79 years. She was born August 30, 1940 in Beeville, Texas to Lucio Cardenas and Juanita Torres Cardenas.
Amalia received an associate degree from San Antonio College and her Bachelor of Science and master’s degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio. She taught at Southwest ISD as a bilingual teacher for twenty-nine years.
Survivors include her husband, Enrique Castellanos; children, Enrique Alonzo Castellanos of San Antonio, Belinda Castellanos Salsbery of San Antonio, Carlos (Vanessa) Castellanos of Jacksonville, Florida and Dora (Rodney) Knappick of San Antonio; grandchildren, Lacy (Jaron) Reed, Paul Salsbery and Gabrielle Knappick; great-grandsons, Nathaniel Reed and Jaedon Reed; sisters, Maria Guerrero and Yolanda Cardenas.
Amalia was preceded in death by her parents, Lucio and Juanita Cardenas and siblings, Pedro Cardenas and Anselmo Cardenas.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 26, 2019 starting at 5:30 pm at St. Louis Catholic Church, with the Holy Rosary recited at 6:30 pm. Mass of the Resurrection will begin at7:00 pm following the rosary. Interment will be held at a later date at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville, Texas.
