Afton Annelle “Nell” Dillard Shipp, of Bullard, Texas, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, August 11, 2018 in San Antonio, at the age of 76 years.
Nell was born April 1, 1942 in Dallas, Texas, one of three children of Afton L. Dillard and Virginia Inez Goble Dillard. Nell graduated from Adamson High School in Dallas. Shortly after graduating from high school, on August 1, 1959, she married Wayne Shipp in Madill, Oklahoma. Their marriage was blessed with three loving children.
While they were busy raising their family, Nell and Wayne owned and operated Wayne’s Drive-In for many years. They had stores located in Dallas, Irving, Garland and Ft. Worth. They then purchased Apollo Building Systems in Bullard, Texas, outside of Tyler, Texas, and ran it for twenty years before they retired. Nell attended Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Afton L. and Virginia Dillard; daughter, Sherry Ann Shipp Penry; and brother, Malcolm Ray Dillard.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Wayne Shipp, Sr. of Bullard, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne Shipp, Jr. and Karen of Rio Medina, Texas, daughter and son-in-law, Karen Middlebrooks and David of La Luz, New Mexico; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy Willis of San Antonio; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 16, 2018 starting at 5:00 pm at Communion Chapel, 5719 Mobud, San Antonio, Texas 78238, with the Funeral Service held at 7:00 pm. She will be laid to rest with her daughter, Sherry, at a later date in the Castroville Community Cemetery.
