Arthur “Art” Alton Akerson

Arthur “Art” Alton Akerson, of San Antonio, passed away on October 31, 2020 at the age of 86. He was born October28, 1934 in Washburn, Maineto Charles Milton Akerson and Mary T. Guion Akerson.
After completing High School, Art joined the United States Air Force. He was a Military Training Instructor and retired as a Technical Sergeant in 1973 after serving for twenty years. In 1969, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in Vietnam.
On October 31, 1970, Art married Carror Estelle Allison at the Lackland Air Force Base Chapel. Art passed away on their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Art and Estelle enjoyed traveling in Europe while they were stationed in Italy. In their later years, they went on numerous bus trips and ocean cruises.
After retirement, Art drove the Lackland Air Force Base Shuttle Bus for thirty-five years, from 1978 to 2013. He also volunteered at Wilford Hall Medical Center for three years.
Survivors include his wife, Estelle Akerson; children, David Akerson (Linda), Jeffrey Akerson, Susan Akerson, J.R. Williams (Pauline), Ruby Nell Kinlaw (Bruce); eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; his dog, Gino.
Art was preceded in death by hisparents, Charles and Mary Akerson.
Public Visitation will be Wednesday, November 11, 2020 starting at 1:00 p.m. at The First Baptist Church of Castroville, with a Funeral Service starting at 2:00 p.m. A Graveside Service and Interment with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. The funeral procession for the Graveside Service to Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery will depart from Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home on Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m.

Memorials may be made in Arthur’s memory to the First Baptist Church of Castroville General Fund, the Humane Society or the charity of your choice.
