$400k grant fund created to help Medina County businesses

Medina County commissioners designated 25 percent of the county’s CARES Act funds to provide grants for local businesses during the commissioners court meeting held last Thursday, August 13.
That translates to over $400,000 of the $1.6 million in federal funds the county received as reimbursement for costs related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Precinct 1 Commissioner Tim Neuman and Precinct 4 Commissioner Jerry Beck volunteered to serve on a committee that will review grant applications and award funding.
Additional details about the grant, its application process, and the makeup of the rest of the committee have yet to be decided, though the matter will be discussed at the next commissioners court meeting, scheduled for Thursday, August 27.
Commissioners previously designated $500,000 of the county’s CARES Act money to purchase personal protective equipment and other coronavirus-related needs for public and private schools in the county.
