@ Driscoll Public Library-LOTS OF PRIZES
This year’s summer reading challenge begins on Monday, June 3rd and is open to participants ages 5 yrs. through 18 yrs. Logs and rules may be picked up at the circulation desk in the library during normal operating hours of 10 am – 6 pm.
All logs are time based and will require that kids read 300 minutes (5hrs) per log. With each completed log they will receive a ticket they can place in the drawing for the prize they want to win. Prize packages are on display in the library throughout the summer.
The reading challenge is divided into 3 levels with medals being given for each level completed. First level will require the completion of 3 logs (15hrs reading), second level will require the completion of 5 logs (25hrs of reading) and the third level will require the completion of 8 logs (40hrs of reading). The readers will have 8 weeks to complete all levels. For additional tickets and chances to win prizes children entering the 3rd grade thru 12th grade may submit a book review. A total of 3 book reviews may be submitted and they must be a minimum of 30 words in length.
For the second year we have a special division for teens (13-18 years) that would like to have a chance at prizes specially chosen for them. This year we have gift cards for gaming, Santikos Theater, 888 Hair Salon & Studio Mani/Pedi, collectable charm & leather wallet from James Avery (valued at $68+), passes to Chicken Pickle in San Antonio, complete 5 book set of ACOTAR series, and 3 book set of Caraval series. To be eligible to win one of these prizes teens will be required to complete a 6-hour reading log and can turn in a total of 8 logs. For additional tickets they can turn in up to 3 book reviews 100-word minimum.
The Friends of the Library and the Current Events club will once again sponsor our end of the year Awards Ceremony and Ice Cream Social for all reading challenge participants on Thursday, August 1st.
