Throughout Lytle P.D. last week … Officers handled 48 calls for service and conducted 48 traffic stops. Of those 48 stops, 29 resulted in citations and 19 were warnings.
We did not have any property crimes reported last week! No thefts, no burglaries, and no criminal mischief.
Officers made five arrests last week. #1– Officers responded to the Pecan Grove Apts. (14900 Main St.) for a report of a disturbance. A 19-year-old male was arrested for Assault Causing Bodily Injury (family member). #2 – A report of suspicious activity near the intersection of Wisdom Rd. and Norvell St., resulted in the arrest of a 30-year-old male who provided false identifying information to the officer. #3 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the arrest of a 37-year-old male for an active felony narcotics warrant out of Bexar Co. #4 – Bexar Co. S.O. met one of our officers and turned over a 22-year-old male who had an active warrant out of our department (he fled on foot a couple of months back.) #5 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the arrest of a 21-year-old male for possession of marijuana and unlawfully carrying a weapon. All the arrestees were booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail in Jourdanton.
In other news … Ofc. John Cortez (assisted by Ofc. Frank Reyes) conducted a traffic stop on Railroad St. A Ford P/U was hauling a John Deere skid loader on a flatbed trailer. The trailer had expired tags, things didn’t add up on the trailer, truck, or skid steer. The officer found probable cause to impound the complete setup. Capt. Dear followed up and determined the skid steer was stolen from a construction company in San Antonio earlier in the month. I’m sure we will be able to determine that the truck and trailer are stolen as well. Excellent job Ofc. John Cortez, it’s great to recover stolen property and deprive the crooks of the ill-gotten loot.
Don’t forget about our Homecoming Night Parade, it will be on Saturday, Sept. 21… at night. Contact city hall for more information.
I was out of the office on vacation most of last week. The rumor mill started turning that “I was headed to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.” Then it was “I was scheduled to speak until Bexar Co. Sheriff Javier Salazar bumped me.” There was no truth in any of this.
This is the real story … I took my two daughters to California on vacation. We landed at LAX and stayed in Pasadena. The weather was great. We did a lot of driving and visited Santa Clarita, Malibu (Zuma Beach), Glendale, Anaheim, Beverly Hills, and more.
My daughter planned a hike up to the Hollywood sign and we walked a six-mile round trip. They were admiring the natural beauty and pointing out the wonderful views. I was mostly looking around to make sure there was an area large enough to land a medical helicopter if I passed out.
We enjoyed some tasty food … Try the Beachwood Café if you end up around the Hollywood sign. The Packing House in Anaheim is a two-story food court with independent food truck-like items, but in a cool indoor food court design, which was an excellent choice as well. The Butcher’s Daughter in West Hollywood and the Salt & Olive in Glendale were two other wonderful places. My oldest daughter spent a good deal of time scoping out places to eat and reading reviews and it paid off!
We did a good amount of shopping too! Visiting The Grove in LA, Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills (couldn’t afford anything there), and the Americana at Brand in Glendale.
My takeaway from the trip – The weather was great, the views were impressive, the traffic was terrible, the gas was high, the people were nice and there was a lot to see and do. I’m not sure about the politics out there, I have heard all the talk; but to me, everyone seemed focused on two goals. To get somewhere in heavy traffic and find a parking spot.
