“If you want to be great, you have to first PREPARE YOURSELF FOR GREATNESS!!!!” was Devine Head Football Coach Paul Gomez’s words to incoming and current Colt and Warhorse athletes as the summer workout program commences Monday, June 10 running through Thursday, July 18.
If the schedule looks slightly different than summers passed, it is because it has been tinkered with just a tad.

Gomez explained the change, saying, “In efforts to maximize your summer and most importantly give parents more time for vacation, we have changed our workout schedule for the summer a little bit.”
Many times, family vacation time together took a backseat to summer workouts and skills sessions. Gomez welcomed the opportunity for families to have more time together during the student’s time away from the classroom.
“Parents, if you are on vacation have an enjoyable time and enjoy your family time. We all need it. We will be waiting on your athlete when they return, and they can join in when they are in town.”
There was also another key factor in the schedule alteration as Gomez hopes to “welcome more player leadership and dedication.”
Typically, graduation was held on a Friday then workouts began the following Monday. This summer, the week after graduation was allowed to be an entire week off for coaches and athletes.
“Strength and Conditioning and Sports Skills take place for two weeks in June and two weeks in July. The weight room will be open Monday through Thursday all summer long from 5pm to 8pm except during the week of 4th of July.”
Student-athletes should attempt to bring a buddy, and to hold each other accountable for workout attendance.
“We are encouraging players to round up the athletes in their class and get as many guys up there in the evenings as possible, especially when we do not have strength and conditioning and skills in the mornings. We believe more player led workouts leads to great team chemistry and championships.”
Workouts are for all incoming 7th grade athletes through senior athletes from 9:00am to 12:45pm.
Parents and athletes alike should know the week of July 15 through July 18 are afternoon sessions due to Warhorse Football Camp being held in the morning.
“Let us prepare to have a great 2024 Season!! Preparation is Key! ATHLETES: You have to want this! If you want to be great, you have to first PREPARE YOURSELF FOR GREATNESS!!!!”
