Take two: JV Warhorses adjust on the fly to claim tourney championship

With football playoffs still going on around the area and other basketball teams just getting rolling, Warhorse JV basketball coach Zac Valenzuela shook some things up in order to keep his tournament flowing flawlessly and getting all of his players ample time to prove their game-worthiness on the court.
“With multiple teams backing out of the Devine JV Tournament, we found ourselves needing to adjust on the fly,” Valenzuela stated matter of factly. “The solution was simple. Split our roster in half and create two squads, Devine 1 and Devine 2. Instead of dividing the teams myself, I selected two captains and allowed the players to ‘draft’ their groups in a classic snake-draft format.”
Group one was dubbed “The Mckey’s” due to their captain being Jacob McKee. McKee and his band of players including Jack Bandel, Shawn Lowe, Martin Rios, Jack Rumfield, and Sergion DeLeon
Devine 1 dropped both of their matchups according to Valenzuela, as he stated, “We fell just short in a tight 56 to 57 loss to Pleasanton, then battled through a 52 to 61 defeat to a resilient Dilley squad.”
Valenzuela points out that it is still very early in the season.
