Samuel Thomas Neagley Sr. passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on March 2nd, 2025. He was 84 years old.
Sam was born on June 15th, 1940 and lived an extraordinary life full of laughter and fun.
He was married to his beautiful wife Barbara for 60 years and is finally with her in heaven. They had 5 children, Sam Neagley Jr (Carol), Kenneth Neagley (Karen), Jennifer Howard (Jim), Chris Neagley (Elena), and Tollan Neagley(Jill). Eleven (11) grandchildren (Tamra, Samantha, Troy, Amber, Kailyn, Amanda, David, Becky, Danielle, Zack, and Aiden), and twelve (12) great-grandchildren.
Sam worked many jobs over his lifetime starting as a young child. He was a military veteran and served in the Army in Korea. He traveled doing construction jobs all over the country. He went back to college to become an EMT and volunteered with Atascosa County EMS and Devine EMS. Later in life he worked at the toll booth at SeaWorld, and finally his dream job of a Walmart greeter. He tried retiring many times over the years, but he never stayed retired for long before moving on to his next adventure in the workforce.
He adored his wife and built the home they lived in their whole lives. Anytime she wanted something added on or done to the house he did it for her. He never forgot a birthday or anniversary and always brought her something from the store whether she asked or not. They were so welcoming to everyone who came to their home, taking in many over the years who needed a place to stay or a hot meal. They adopted Tamra and Troy when they were babies and raised them and gave them a wonderful life. They loved their family and would spend summers taking all the grandkids to museums, theme parks, zoos, the movies, and out to eat. They loved to throw parties and were known for their Halloween and Christmas parties. Their house was always full of laughter, love, and the best food.
Sam was a character and one of a kind! He loved joking around and making people laugh. He loved watching trashy reality TV (Jerry Springer was his favorite). He would even keep those celebrity gossip magazines that came in the Sunday paper in his bathroom for reading material. He always had some crazy story to tell that would leave you laughing. He also enjoyed his farm, riding the tractor and taking care of the animals. He never met a stranger and would end up finding someone he knew everywhere he went. When he finally retired for good, he would go to HEB and Walmart multiple times a week to gossip and visit with the employees and people he knew. He was a social man and hated just sitting at home. He loved having breakfast with his friends, sitting around talking and laughing. He was also a great cook and would enjoy cooking a meal for his family, especially breakfast on weekends.
Sam was a wonderful family man, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
There will be a Celebration of Life at his home on 302 Naegelin Road in Lytle on June 15th. Dad and moms ashes will be mixed together and spread on the land they loved.
