See where the Senate is set to vote on the SS Bill this week so, if you aint contacted Sen. Cruz or Sen. Cornyn, time to do so. So far, according to the ever so accurate internet, there are 62 Bipartisan supporters in favor of sending this to a final vote that only requires 60. Believe it or don’t, even Chuck Schumer is in favor of it. Don’t use this as a reason not to call the Senators and show support of this Legislation. (202-224-3121)
Took my child bride to Charlie’s Daughter for breakfast Saturday mornin and sat next to the Big Table. If you ever get a chance to sit down and listen to the likes of Bo and Cullen and Stroud and Charlie and Weisinger and Aubrey, don’t take none of it as anywhere near factual or truthful. You will hear a lot of useless information and mind numbing chatter. You may even leave the restaurant a little dumber than you were when you came in. I sit at one of these on Wednesday and Friday mornings and I usually recover before I get home.
Won’t go into the particulars of our ESD 4 meeting last Wednesday cause I am sure that the paper will cover it in depth. Gonna meet with ESD 1 (Castroville) on Thursday and get the lowdown on how to pass a Homestead Exemption for everyone in ESD 4 as well as an additional Exemption for those 65 and over. Heard that ESD 2 (Devine Fire) is also looking at this type of taxpayer relief.

Devine Soccer Club partnering with MLS Go
Devine Soccer Club was created to help in the development of future soccer players and to grow the love of the game in our community. “We are not a single season program. We will operate year round; this was a dream years ago. Finally, it was the right time to make it a reality. When the opportunity came up to partner with Major League Soccer (MLS), it was an easy decision. MLS has Next, MLS Next Pro which has been successful in developing players. Having the MLS GO recreational program within the Devine Soccer Club, we can ensure the coaches will be trained and informed how best to help the players. Not just form a technical standpoint but also from a tactical and mental one. The players that join our club will not only play soccer, they will learn it as well,” said Pablo Carmona.
They will offer clinics varying in length from 1 to 3 days. They will have camps, and all of this is to help develop the players. Some of these events will be free while others will have a cost. They look forward to bringing in players from San Antonio that are in the San Antonio Futbol Club Pro Academy. Also, from time to time, bring in retired pro players, former and current college players to help in the events they hold.

Christmas Lights Contest!!
PRESS RELEASE–It’s hard to believe that it has been 2 years since we lost our beloved Cailtin Jaworowski to Cancer.
This town rallied behind Caitlin and the family while she was going through treatments. When we lost her, they continued to support the family in so many loving ways. So, in lieu of flowers it was decided that the kids needed to have a decorated yard for Christmas and so this is how it all began.
In memory of Caitlin, Justin Jaworowski and the family wanted to help other families in similar situations. This year’s recipient is Cheyenne Alexis (Lexy) Martinez, daughter of Roland and Kayla (Sellers) Martinez, of Devine. Cheyenne was diagnosed on September 13, 2024, with Acute Lymphatic Leukemia. All proceeds collected from this fundraiser will go directly to Cheyenne, better known as Lexy!

There’s something to be said about living in a small town. Small town yes, but full of people with big hearts. Thank you will never be enough!
ABOUT THE LIGHT CONTEST
The first place prize will be $500 gift card donated by Alamo Truck Accessories and the 2nd place prize will be $250 donated by Vail Photography.
To join the light contest, all you have to do is submit the entry form with any donation you want to make whether it’s $5 or $500.
Make sure your lights are on December 21 and 22nd when judging will occur. Who’s eligible? Homes and businesses in Devine, Natalia, Moore and surrounding areas. Please submit a photo of your lights with your entry if you live outside city limits.

7:23AM – Complainant advised vehicle partially in roadway on Griffin Dr. Vehicle removed.
20:18PM – Complainant on Windy Knoll possibly heard two gun shots in area.
22:13PM – Officer dispatched to Warhorse Dr for physical disturbance between roommates.
22:43PM – Complainant on Hondo Ave E called in reference to white Chevy pickup in parking lot for over an hour. Driver ID’d by police, staying at location. All okay.

6:45AM – Complainant on Colonial Pkwy called in reference to male subject wearing black and white hoodie going up to people.
16:17PM – Officer dispatched to IH 35 S for theft. Male passed point of sale and pushed loss prevention with shopping cart, left items there and left scene. Charges pending.
21:34PM – Complainant on Davis Ave called in reference to vehicle parked next to house being renovated. ID’d by police, subject advised he was stopping to see friend but didn’t realize his family had moved out. Subject left without incident.

11:32AM – Officer dispatched to College Ave for forced entry from back door. Damaged ATM owned by VFW.

Lions help out MCSO’s Brown Santa program
Medina County Brown Santa was the recipient of a $300 donation from Devine Lions Club. Presenting the check to Frank Navarro and Cara Thomas are Lions Kellen Nixon and Lewis Stroud. MCSO and Sheriff Randy Brown have been hard at work again this year getting ready to deliver Santa’s presents to children all across Medina County.
Devine Lion’s Club December Students of the Month
Devine Lion’s Club President Lewis Stroud and DHS Principal Juan Gonzalez with students of the month Logan Davis and Oakley Malone. The Devine Lion’s Club meet the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month at Triple C. Contact Lewis Stroud if you would like to join.
Devine High School students Oakley Malone and Logan Davis were honored as Students of the Month at a recent Devine Lions Club meeting. Both are seniors at DHS.
Oakley Malone
Oakley has participated and excelled in Devine’s athletic and band programs all four years. She started out being on the Varsity tennis team as a freshman, and has now officially been given the title of the girls captain for her senior year. Her sophomore year she moved up to Varsity and was a part of the starting five. Devine’s basketball program has been very successful and now since there are 7 seniors, we’re having a fund and goofy season, honoring our favorite guy, Coach J. For community involvement she recently was inducted into NHS, where she will serve community service hours. Outside of school, she owns her own business of permanent jewelry, which she started this past May and greatly enjoyed.
“Although I haven’t decided what college I want to commit to, I have an idea of what I would like to do in my future. I’d like to major in communications and get a four year bachelor’s degree. Then, I want to get my future degree in Technical Writing, preferably within a medical or scientific study. In between my studies I would also like to further my business, whether it’s moving it to an online business or doing annual pop-ups,” said Malone
She is the daughter of Megan Martinez.
Logan Davis
Logan is ranked number four in the senior class. He is a member of NHS, student council, Youth Alive and FFA. He has also been a student trainer for three years and head trainer for two of those.
“I will be attending A&M University in the Fall of 2025, to study Kinesiology. After I graduate, I plan to become an Athletic Trainer and eventually go to PT school and open my own clinic,” Davis said.
He is the son of Chris and Kari Davis.
FCCLA students teach others about littering & clean up areas in Devine

Devine eighth graders Collier Paige and Urijah Thompson are set on cleaning up Devine for their FCCLA project this year. On November 13th the duo held a trash clean-up for the FCCLA chapter at the road leading to our local Walmart. Paige stated, “This road always has trash along it and looks terrible. I thought it should be the first place we started with our project.” FCCLA members, advisor Linsey Outlaw and another parent volunteer helped to clean up four large bags of trash.
Paige and Thompson next set out to teach Devine’s younger students about the importance of not littering and why recycling is important. On December 11th, the DMS students presented to 81 third and fourth graders in Ms. Pike’s Science class. The boys created a slideshow with facts about pollution and some effects that it has on our planet, the different types of pollution, and asked the younger students where they see this locally and beyond. Paige and Thompson reached out to Don’t Mess with Texas for help with their speech. They utilized educational materials on the site for this presentation. To get the third and fourth graders thinking about how they could help with this problem, the boys asked them to create posters about littering on the intermediate campus. These were put up around the school by Ms. Pike to remind all the students to clean up any litter they see and to keep Devine Intermediate looking beautiful!

On Saturday December 14th at 8:00 AM members of the Longview Cemetery Association , as well as several members of our community along with Alma Horvath of Devine (who furnishes our wreaths each year), placed Christmas wreaths on the graves of our veterans .This is our 10th year to hold this event. The wreath placement was done in conjunction with the WREATH ACROSS AMERICA program.
We are proud to honor our veterans who served and helped to protect and defend our country. We keep a flag posted at each veteran’s grave all year long as a way to say thank you for all they have done and to continue to honor them for many years to come.
We wish to thank all of those who attended today to help place the wreaths and especially Alma Horvath who furnishes the wreaths each year.
