Henry Martin Grage (Hank) passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on July 14, 2018; his 68th wedding anniversary.
Hank was born in Red Rock Township, Minnesota on November 24, 1928 the son of Martin Heinrich and Emilie Knuth Laack Grage. He is the last surviving member of their family of eleven children. Hank married Audrey Britt Grage in 1950. He is survived by her, his son Henry Grage Jr. and his daughter Lila Grage Dustin along with three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1967 in several locations in the US, in Japan, two tours in Korea and two tours in Germany. Asa combat engineer with the 10TH Army Corp., in 1950 Korea, his 185th Engineer Battalionwas responsible for constructing(under continuous fire)the roads, bridgesand airstrip (the only means for evacuating the wounded)infrastructure for at Chosin Reservoir Campaign.
Hank loved everyone he met and remains loved by many. He loved to make people laugh and serving others. He was an artist. He loved metal and wood sculpture and left behind many examples of his work. He loved his country and was a member of several associations including: The Chosin Few, The Korean War Veterans Association, The American Legion of Hondo Texas, The Retired Enlisted Association, The Disabled American Association, National Association of Atomic & Nuclear Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Devine Tx where he served as Quartermaster for VFW Post 3966.
Visitation will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel in Devine, Texas Sunday, July 29,2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Graveside service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 30, 2018.
