Devine High School Principal Juan Michael Gonzalez has resigned, effective immediately, district superintendent Todd Grandjean reports. Retired Devine Intermediate Principal Blain Martin will replace Gonzalez for the rest of the school year.
in the wake of complaints from district parents regarding his recent remarks regarding educational aspirations for Devine ISD students. He offered an apology to those parents during the March 24 regular meeting of the school board.
Grandjean said the opening for high school principal has already been posted on a statewide job website for educators.
“Finding principals is always challenging but also exciting,” Grandjean said.
Gonzalez was hired by Devine ISD in May of 2022. Before joining Devine ISD in 2022 he served as a middle school assistant principal in San Antonio ISD for two years. He also served as an assistant principal in Austin ISD for nine years. He also served as a coordinator for the global STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) competition known as F! in Schools Formula 1 STEM Challenge.
