Authorities are currently investigating a drive-by shooting after a suspect fired multiple rounds toward a home on Country Lane in Natalia. It happened this past Friday, August 2 around 6 p.m., and police were on scene for around 4 hours that night. The suspect could be facing charges of Deadly Conduct and Child Endangerment according to authorities.
“We believe one home was being targeted as a result of an ongoing dispute,” Natalia PD Chief Martin Chavez said.
Chief Chavez urges everyone to think before committing such a dangerous act. As for the Child Endangerment charges, he stated, “The children were not the target, but there were children inside that home. Thankfully nobody was hit by the rounds that were fired.”
“We do have a suspect in this case,” Chief Chavez added. “We are in the process of getting a warrant.”
Witnesses stated they heard multiple rounds fired by what police believe was a handgun, as a vehicle sped by.
Chief Chavez thanked Medina County Sheriff’s Office and SAPD for their support in the ongoing investigation. SAPD assisted with a helicopter to search for the suspect who they thought might be hiding out in a nearby field. Authorities were on scene for about 4 hours that night.
“This kind of crime does not happen often in our community, and we will not tolerate it. We are going to follow up on this, and we will prosecute it to the full extent of the law,” Chief Chavez added.
He added that a 3rd degree Felony like this is punishable by up to 10 years in prison, even though nobody was injured, it is still a very serious offense, he said.
